To help you, we’ve tracked down the best golf coaches in Vancouver to match your learning style. Let’s get you ready for the fairway and make those frustrating mishits a thing of the past.

If you want deep expertise, Derek Thornley, the Director of Instruction, brings more than 30 years of coaching experience to the tee.
He has coached University of British Columbia (UBC) golf teams and Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) national-team players.
With him, you’ll learn at dedicated practice facilities featuring a two-tiered driving range with 26 stalls and a private short-game green. His academy also offers lessons in English, Korean, and Mandarin alongside tools like FlightScope launch monitors.
Our colleague actually worked with him on his short game last summer and said his technical tips immediately cleaned up his contact out of the bunker.
However, if you join group lessons, coach schedules can change on short notice, meaning you might not always train with the same instructor.
Super patient and super knowledgeable
Marty is a fantastic coach! Super patient and super knowledgeable. He gave me great advice and got my swing from broken to near perfect in one lesson! Looking forward to more lessons with him to ensure that perfection continues!

All of the coaches are highly professional and dedicated
We are very grateful to Fraserview Golf Academy for their outstanding coaching. All of the coaches are highly professional and dedicated. In particular, Mr. Derek has trained my two daughters in golf over the past eight years. Under his guidance, they not only developed strong golf skills, but also improved their social skills, athletic abilities, etiquette, and leadership qualities. We truly appreciate the positive impact the academy has had on their growth, both on and off the course. Highly recommended!

Golfers seeking serious physical gains should book a session with Anton Lanerva, a Golf Performance Coach. His approach starts with an in-depth movement evaluation before building a personalised training roadmap with progress tracking.
He evaluates mobility, strength, and swing mechanics together to help you generate clubhead speed and move without pain. He also targets measurable outcomes like fairway hits, greens in regulation, and rotational power.
A colleague actually trained with him and added noticeable distance to his drives within a month.
Unfortunately, if you want a traditional swing lesson focused strictly on technical mechanics, you may find this movement-based coaching too physical for your needs.
He is very professional and passionate
Carmeron is a great coach! He is very professional and passionate!!! I work out for twenty years. He is the coach I really like!!! He is also good at training golf movements. I gained 10Y for my driver after trained with him for 2 months. I’m so happy to train with him!!!

I’ve gained a better understanding of how my body moves in the golf swing
I’ve been working with German for 3 months and it’s been an amazing experience. I honestly look forward to each session. I’ve gained a better understanding of how my body moves in the golf swing and where my weaknesses are. My golf swing already feels more powerful and balanced. I no longer have back pain after a round of golf which was my main goal when starting with VGP. Germán is phenomenal and I’m so happy to have him as my coach.

3. GOLFTEC Vancouver Terminal Avenue

GOLFTEC Vancouver Terminal Avenue provides year-round, high-tech golf instruction in climate-controlled indoor simulator bays. With this setup, you’re sure that bad weather never interrupts your practice.
Led by Director of Instruction Norman Baufeld, the facility uses advanced OPTIMOTION 3D motion-capture technology and video analysis to measure thousands of swing data points.
This data-driven approach gives golfers immediate visual feedback on every club in their bag, allowing coaches to build customized improvement plans based on exact physics rather than guesswork.
However, since the training takes place primarily inside indoor simulator bays, the setup may not appeal to players who prefer immediate open-air range practice on real turf.
I highly recommend booking sessions with him
Matt has been a phenomenal coach – two things that really stood out for me were how he took the time to teach me Golftec’s tools and software so I could really make the most of the practice pass, and how he worked with me to get into the stats and physics of breaking down the golf swing to really fine tune things. I’ve seen more than a few strokes shaved off my game, and I highly recommend booking sessions with him!

Just an amazingly positive coach
When I first stepped into Golftec I had a rough idea how to swing a club. I could, occasionally, make the ball go straight and to where I wanted it to land. After just a few sessions with Norman he was able to dial in why I was making as many mishits as I was, provided drills I can do at the range, and was just an amazingly positive coach. Without question, if you are looking to take that first step to beating your buddies on the course, this is the place to do it. Zero regrets.

4. Quinn Vilneff Golf

- Friday 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Saturday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Sunday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
It’s tough to find true competitive experience in a local golf instructor, but Quinn Vilneff stands out. He brings over 10 years of expertise and even NCAA Division 1 play and professional caddie work.
We joined one of his clinics last spring, and the advice he shared from his PGA Tour experience completely changed how we think about course management.
If you’re looking to improve your driver performance or recovery shots, he also runs specialised clinics that focus on those areas. His covered teaching area at University Golf Club lets you train outdoors while staying dry when it rains.
Plus, he offers two-hour playing lessons where you get to learn real-game strategy right on the course.
Sadly, his twilight playing sessions only run on Tuesday evenings, so spots are limited.
His knowledge and how he conveys it through his teaching methods resonated well
Quinn has an excellent understanding of the game and has clearly laid out a game plan for me to achieve the best golf I’ve ever played. His knowledge and how he conveys it through his teaching methods resonated well and I saw immediate feedback when I implemented his coaching advice. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a solid coach!

I can’t recommend Quinn enough
Have had a couple sessions with Quinn now and he’s far and away the best golf coach I’ve had the pleasure of working with. He’s big on the science behind the game – the numbers, stats, and physics – and is great at explaining how your swing habits affect where your shots are going. If you’re the kind of golfer who really wants to understand the details behind the swing in order to make it consistent and repeatable, I can’t recommend Quinn enough!

5. Golf Progress Hub

Address: 3904 W 51st Ave.

Hours: Monday-Friday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Saturday-Sunday By appointment only
Golf Progress Hub offers specialized golf instruction led by Kelvin Ko, a PGA of Canada Class A Teaching Professional with over 20 years of coaching experience.
A standout advantage for Vancouver’s diverse golfing community is Kelvin’s fluent bilingual instruction in both English and Mandarin, making technical swing adjustments easy to understand for players of all background levels.
The hub is especially recognized for its high-performance junior development programming.
Under Kelvin’s mentorship, young athletes have gone on to claim provincial championships and earn collegiate athletic scholarships. It’s basically a premier destination for competitive youth golfers looking to elevate their game.
However, because their most structured, multi-tier academy framework is designed primarily for junior players, adult golfers don’t have access to the same structured curriculum.
Additionally, general weekday hours are restricted to afternoons, with weekend slots strictly available by appointment only.
Kevin is a very nice coach
I had golf class with coach Kevin at the Musquam golf course for a month. Kevin is a very nice coach. I have played golf for more than ten years, but Kevin has still taught me a lot. Kevin is able to find my biggest problem with my gesture. By correcting one gesture, I have improved all other gesture naturally. highly recommend!
