The 5 Best Coffee Roasters in Vancouver for Flavours True to the Bean

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Bean Quality and Sourcing: We checked where the beans come from and how they get processed. Traceable single-origin microlots ensure a much tastier cup.

Roasting Profiles: We looked at the variety of roasts available for different brewers. When you have light and dark options, you can enjoy a spectrum of flavours based on your needs, mood, or brewing method.

Accessibility and Subscriptions: Fresh beans delivered directly to your door can help busy coffee drinkers. We favoured roasters offering flexible weekly and bi-weekly home delivery.

In-Store Experience: We looked for roasters with comfortable and aromatic environments. Places where you can taste the final product on-site were prioritized.

Value for Money. Paying for specialty coffee shouldn't drain your entire paycheck. I weighed bag prices against the actual quality of the roasted beans.

It’s no secret that Vancouver’s coffee scene is impressive, from the sweet notes of Arabica to the tarty notes of Southeast Asian Excelsa beans. But here’s the thing: it isn’t easy to find a cafe that delivers well-balanced acidity and enchanting aromas

This time, we’re skipping Timmies! We rounded up the best coffee roasters in Vancouver for drinks true to flavour.

Whether you’re a home barista chasing that perfect pour-over or a wholesale buyer hunting for reliable supply, our must-visit spots will offer serious magic. Let’s dive into the local roasteries changing how we drink our daily cups!

Sweet Barrel operates a brilliant dual concept that pairs house-roasted beans with a full house-made creamery menu. Once you set foot inside, you’ll be greeted with what feels like a massive sensory hug.

You get multiple house-roasted origins to pick from instead of a generic house blend, giving you an incredible variety to choose from. Every sip bursts with bright, unmuted flavour notes, clearly showcasing the quality beans.

The best part? You can taste the origins of each coffee because they roast their beans without pushing into second crack.

Their Arbutus Street cafe is open seven days a week for easy daily access, but you do have to plan around holidays since they close on all statutory dates.

Pros

  • Wide variety of house-roasted coffee selection
  • Origin-focused roasting methods
  • House-made creamery menu available
  • Seven-day cafe access

Cons

  • Closed on statutory holidays

House-roasted coffee and ice cream

If you like ACTUAL GOOD coffee, this place does VERY good coffee. They roast their own beans in-house too. The ice cream is also yum! And it’s really cute decor inside. 10/10 highly recommend, and worth going out of your way for actual decent coffee in Kits if you’re a coffee snob.

Fresh beans from a nano roastery

SUCH an awesome little coffee shop/roastery. Delicious fresh roasted beans, amazing ice cream and some stellar food. It’s great to see a small nano roastery putting out such good quality. It’s on par with some of the best roasters in Vancouver. The staff are amazing and I love the little home made accents all over the shop, such as the fold out tables!

Agro Coffee Roasters is on our list for their sustainability focus. They rely on certified organic coffee to protect farmers from harsh chemical fertilizers.

They offer loads of options, from bright light roasts to punchy dark profiles. You get an incredibly solid range of choices for both filter setups and espresso machines.

Their core coffee bags start at affordable prices, making them a fantastic steal for budget-conscious home brewers. Plus, their flexible subscriptions let you pick bag sizes and grind types to get the most cost-effective option.

Sadly, they lack a sit-down cafe for enjoying a freshly pulled shot on-site. You also can’t pick up beans on weekends, so you must grab them during weekday hours.

Pros

  • Certified organic coffee only
  • Excellent range of roast profiles
  • Lower-priced coffee bags
  • Flexible coffee subscriptions

Cons

  • No sit-down cafe
  • Weekend pickup is unavailable

Fresh Peru and equilibrium beans

Absolutely amazing coffee beans! I first tried Agro beans about 6 months ago, and they have been my go-to choice ever since! The packaging is great, the beans are always fresh, and they taste and smell amazing! I highly recommend their Peru and Equilibrium Espresso beans

Colombia roast and fresh subscription pickup

I’ve been using Agro coffee beans for years now, the Columbia roast, the taste and aroma of this coffee is awesome, way better than any other local roasters around Vancouver (and I tried a lot of them). I use to buy it from Wholefoods, but I just scheduled a subscription directly with Agro to pick up my freshly roasted beans directly from their place. The guy there was very welcoming and gave me a coffee cup to try it out.

Every cup in this roastery always tastes remarkably smooth and vibrant. That’s not surprising, since their Retrospresso bean works beautifully across different brew methods, from delicate pour-overs to intense home espresso.

Even better, you can get a 1 lb. bag for only $25, which feels like a total bargain. Accessibility-wise, you can find their beans at their Alberta Street cafe or several independent grocers and markets around town.

But getting free local delivery does require a 2 lb. minimum order, so we recommend cafe pickups for single-bag buyers.

Fresh daily roasts and beans to take home

Tried a cup of delicious coffee and grabbed a bag of freshly roasted beans home to support local business. The owner says their coffee is freshly roasted every day in late morning so I look forward to coming back and watching the roasting process next time.

Tucked-away roastery with skilled baristas

Love this little tucked away gem of Cafe✨ along with the whole collective there. Makes for a great vibe! To say the roast is perfection is an understatement. Their barista is skilled with every pour and I’ve been back for beans too, cause I just can’t get enough! If you’re lucky you can score a cookie fresh out of the oven!

But they avoid dark roasts and traditional blends, which limits your options if you crave a classic, smoky cup of dark chocolatey espresso.

Pros

  • Custom coffee programs for businesses
  • Broad single-origin selection
  • Works for all brewing devices
  • Monthly subscription available

Cons

  • No dark roasts and traditional blends

Smooth flat white in a calm café

I stopped by this small Cafe this morning. They have a calm and quaint shop, with comfortable seating and great music playing! Angie served me an amazing Flat White. Their espresso beans are flavourful! No bitter aftertaste, it was poured well! I got a cookie as-well, and I do have to say it was amazing! Great mix of sweet with a bit of saltiness, neither overpowering the other! I would certainly recommend this cafe for a date spot, certainly would also be a great place to study as-well!

Cozy café for oat milk flat whites

Best little coffee shop that I’ve found in the Broadway / Main & Broadway / Cambie area. The baristas are pleasant, the oat milk flat white is great and the food selections look delicious. I usually get my order to go, but while I’m waiting I notice the place has quite zen and cozy vibes. It would be the perfect place to grab a coffee and read a book or do some writing.

However, securing free shipping requires a hefty $100 minimum order. Most single-bag buyers will end up paying extra delivery fees as a result.

Coffee by the park

Located right in front of the park, this café offers such a relaxing and wonderful atmosphere. The peaceful surroundings make it the perfect place to unwind and take it easy. Of course, the coffee is absolutely wonderful too! I have a feeling I’ll be coming back here quite often. Highly recommended! ☕😊 …

Espresso, patio seating and on-site roasting

Top marks on excellent espresso! So hard to find in Vancouver. You can feel the community vibe the moment you enter. Spacious and comfy. Nice shaded patio seating across from a green space. Delicious assortment of pastries. Roasted beans on premises. (Real ceramic cups. I shudder when espresso is served in paper cups!)
