It always starts the same way—someone on our team drops a message in the group chat about craving pho. Within seconds, everyone’s chiming in with “You know what? Me too.”
Fast forward a few hours, and suddenly we’re all out hunting for the best Vietnamese food spots in Vancouver. That’s pretty much how this list came to life. All it took was one person’s craving to send the whole team on a delicious mission across the city.
Here are the Vietnamese spots we’ve tried, tested, and loved. So the next time that craving hits, you’ll know exactly where to go.
1. Anh and Chi
– Media credits: anhandchi
Address: 3388 Main St
Contact details: +1 604-878-8883
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 11 AM – 10 PM
- Friday to Saturday: 11 AM – 11 PM
- Sunday: 11 AM – 10 PM
Price: $$$
Anh and Chi is one of Vancouver’s most talked-about Vietnamese restaurants and even earned Michelin recognition several years in a row (2022–2025). It doesn’t really modernise everything, but it does add some real finesse.
The dish that won us over is the AAA Beef Skewer that comes with a lemongrass stick. For us, it really showed off the chef’s control through its balanced flavours and perfect cooking.
The pho earns similar praise. It’s rich and balanced, with broth that gives a quiet nod to generations of home cooking. Even their spring rolls, with their crisp texture and subtle cracker surprise inside, are a playful twist on a classic.
Pro tip: Those looking to sample a range of flavours should aim for Happy Hour (around 3–5 PM). You’ll find a trimmed-down menu featuring skewers and small plates at slightly reduced prices.
2. Pho in Love Authentic Vietnamese Restaurant & Bar
– Media credits: phoinlove
Address: 1725 Davie St
Contact details: +1 604-609-7010
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 10 PM
Price: $$
If you’re after a comforting spot on a rainy or chilly day, Pho in Love has everything that you should try. Start by soaking in the warm glow of the lanterns, then try their steaming bowl of beef pho.
It’s clear and aromatic, a sign that it’s been carefully simmered rather than rushed. The noodles have that satisfying bounce, and the meat comes tender without being fatty or chewy.
The small bowl size could easily pass for a large elsewhere, so you definitely get your money’s worth.
We also tried a few sides—summer rolls and crab Rangoon—and they hit the spot, especially if you like a good mix of crispy and fresh.
Pro tip: Try their Vietnamese coffee affogato. The mix of vanilla ice cream and strong coffee is seriously good, and the condensed milk drizzle makes it even better. If you’re feeling dancy, add a little Kahlua.
3. Xin Chào
– Media credits: xinchaovancouver
Address: 2559 Cambie St.
Contact details: +1 604-695-9384
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 11 AM – 8 PM
- Friday to Saturday: 11 AM – 9 PM
- Sunday: 11 AM – 8 PM
Price: $$
Xin Chào has a bright, clean, and spacious interior that feels more like a cafe than a restaurant. It just looks like it, though, because their menu is packed with dishes that you definitely don’t want to miss.
Pho is obviously the star here. The broth is rich, and every bowl comes loaded with fresh basil and bean sprouts. We tried a range—classic beef, spicy beef, and even a fish cake noodle option.
The fish pho was amazing: delicate, flavourful, and not “fishy” at all. Portions are generous, so sharing (or taking leftovers home) is almost inevitable.
Spring rolls and salad rolls weren’t overly oily. We also loved that they came with fillings, like shiitake mushrooms and water chestnuts. Surprisingly, they’re easy to eat without a mess.
Pro tip: The coconut shake is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. If you like iced coffee with a tropical touch, try their coconut coffee instead.
4. Pho Viet Lotus Restaurant
– Media credits: phovietlotus
Address: 2680 W Broadway
Contact details: +1 604-558-3999
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 11 AM – 10 PM
Price: $$
If customer service matters to you, Pho Viet Lotus delivers.
Our group all tried their Hue Spicy noodle soup, and one of us was curious about the spice levels. She asked if it could be toned down since the menu only lists “normal” or “extra” spicy. We loved how the staff were happy to accommodate it.
The broth of it has an interesting taste profile. It’s got layers of lemongrass, chilli, and aromatic spices. The beef slices were also tender, thinly cut, and exactly how you’d expect in a Hanoi-style pho.
The vegan dishes were just as impressive. The deep-fried tofu was crispy on the outside but soft inside.
Pro tip: If you try the bánh xèo, make sure to eat it with the fresh herbs, lettuce, and fish sauce—that’s what makes it taste truly authentic.
5. Bun Cha Ca Hoang Yen
– Media credits: bunchacahoangyen
Address: 5155 Victoria Dr
Contact details: +1 604-321-2711
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 9 PM
Price: $$
The table condiments alone at Bun Cha Ca Hoang Yen were impressive. Beyond the standard hoisin and sriracha, there was real fish sauce, chilli oil, and even a premium soy sauce. It might sound minor, but it immediately sets a tone of authenticity.
We started with the lemongrass pork. The slices themselves were lean and slightly on the dry side, but the minced patty that came alongside them saved them. It was juicy and smoky with a subtle sweetness, and the lemongrass came through too.
The spring rolls were another standout. They take a bold approach here: instead of chunky taro, the filling is mashed into a paste, mixed with spices, and seasoned with black pepper. This gives the rolls a silky interior—a contrast with the crisp outer layer.
Pro tip: If you’re craving for soup, try their Special Crab Soup with Vermicelli (Bun Rieu). Pair it with house-made fish cakes and spring rolls to get a balance of textures too.
6. Tre Viet
– Media credits: treviet_yvr
Address: 1114 Denman St
Contact details: +1 604-423-5555
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 11 AM – 9 PM
- Friday to Sunday: 11 AM – 10 PM
Price: $$
Tre Viet has carved a niche in Vancouver’s Vietnamese scene, balancing both Northern and Southern styles. We sampled a few signature dishes that showed off their ambition.
The #34 platter, for example, is a feast for both eyes and the palate. There were steamed pork hock slices, deep-fried tofu, and crispy young rice cakes with pork. It’s all served with a shrimp paste dip that’s more delicious with a squeeze of lime.
Another highlight is their Hanoi crisp crab parcels. These come packed with crab, prawn, and ground pork. This combination of ingredients strikes a good balance of texture and seasoning.
The Hanoi-style vermicelli with charred, caramelised pork grilled is also a dish that earned some attention from us. The accompanying housemade garlic and chilli vinegar at tableside adds some acidity to it that lifts the entire plate.
Pro tip: For dessert, we strongly recommend trying their caramel flan. It’s custardy and not overly sweet. It’s a good palate cleanser after the more savoury dishes.
7. The Lunch Lady
– Media credits: thelunchlady
Address: 1046 Commercial Dr
Contact details: +1 604-559-5938
Operating hours:
- Monday: 4:45 PM – 9 PM
- Tuesday to Thursday: 11 AM – 2:30 PM, 4:45 PM – 9 PM
- Friday: 11 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 10 PM
- Saturday: 10:30 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 10 PM
- Sunday: 10:30 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 9 PM
Price: $$
We spent some time at The Lunch Lady, and it’s hard not to get excited about it. Chef Nguyen Thi Thanh has taken classic Saigon recipes and given them a modern, elevated twist. You can see why Anthony Bourdain gave it a shoutout.
The beef carpaccio deserves all the hype that it’s getting. It features thin, fresh slices of beef. The beef slices are accompanied by herbs, crispy shallots, and peanuts for added crunch.
We also loved how the staff were so attentive without being intrusive. The servers can describe dishes quickly. They’re a massive help for those who are unfamiliar with Vietnamese cuisine.
Pro tip: If you want to enjoy the fresh air, book early or request the patio when making a reservation. The bonus? It’s a dog-friendly restaurant, so your furry friend can join in on the adventure.
8. Madame Danh
– Media credits: madame__danh
Address: 4288 Fraser St
Contact details: +1 604-568-1518
Operating hours:
- Monday: 5 PM – 9 PM
- Tuesday to Sunday: 11 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 9 PM
Price: $$
Madame Danh thrives on creativity and presentation. We’d say it’s perfect for those who enjoy modern twists on Vietnamese classics and are willing to splurge a bit.
The roasted bone marrow caught our eye since it’s rare to see it done in Vancouver. It’s rich and indulgent, and might have benefited from a bread with more soak-up power. However, the flavours were decadent and Instagram-worthy.
A few other standouts were the caramel garlic wings and the tiger prawn salad. The wings were crispy and bursting with a sweet-savoury punch. The prawn salad consisted of small lotus root pieces, snow fungus, and prawns cut with precision.
Pro tip: The restaurant has a slightly higher-end feel, so it’s a perfect birthday venue or date night destination. For casual weeknight takeout, it may feel a bit formal or pricey.
9. Linh Café
– Media credits: linhcafe_yvr
Address: 1428 Granville St, Unit 130
Contact details: +1 604-564-9668
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 9 AM – 9 PM
- Friday to Saturday: 9 AM – 10 PM
- Sunday: 9 AM – 9 PM
Price: $$
If you’re looking for a twist beyond traditional Vietnamese flavours, Linh Cafe does it well with its Vietnamese-French fusion. It’s an odd combination, but somehow, they made it work.
Don’t skip the appetisers here—they have some good ones, like the creamy pork liver paste on crispy baguette.
The spicy baguette sticks are an option too, but for us, the heat didn’t quite hit. The complimentary bread rolls with butter, however, were surprisingly good.
For the main course, our favourite was the pho bowl with bone marrow. The broth was really meaty, and the marrow was so soft it added a luxuriously creamy layer of flavour.
Pro tip: If you’re up for something beyond the usual Vietnamese dishes, the steak & frites, Côte de Bouef, and frog legs are must-tries. The frog legs are surprisingly addictive and worth trying, even if you’re not usually adventurous with proteins.
10. Moc Vietnamese Kitchen & Bar
– Media credits: moc.vietnamese
Address: 1516 Yew St
Contact details: +1 604-731-6336
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 12 PM – 9 PM
- Friday to Sunday: 11:30 AM – 10 PM
Price: $$
Moc Vietnamese Kitchen & Bar is a Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver that makes you want to stay longer than planned. It’s bright, roomy, and relaxed. Even the staff are cheerful and quick on their feet, which adds to the easygoing vibe.
We tried a bunch of dishes, and everything was delicious. From the spring rolls, the beef pho, and even the grilled pork vermicelli.
Some of us also tried the salt and pepper fish and fried squid. From what my teammate said, the fish had a nice crunch to it without being oily. The squid, on the other hand, was perfectly seasoned and not chewy.
Pro tip: For banh mi lovers, if you want the bread extra-crispy, ask them to toast it a little longer. A little extra toasting lifts the whole bite without changing the filings.
