Growing up, soup was something I always associated with eating if I was sick. These days, soup has become one of those good old comfort meals. I mean, nothing beats a hearty bowl of soup on a chilly Vancouver day, right?
And as someone who’s had my fair share of soups in the city, I’ve learned where to go for soups that are rich, flavourful, and don’t taste like water with a bit of spice.

The Vancouver Soup Company Cafe easily earns a spot among the places serving the best soups in Vancouver, thanks to its homemade soups that are cooked in small batches every day.
Most of their soups are vegetarian, gluten-free, or vegan. I’ve tried a few of these vegan and gluten-free soups, and none of them tasted inferior to other soups. In fact, they tasted fresh and flavourful.
One soup I really enjoy is their Moroccan Chickpea Kale soup. I love the richness of the red wine broth mixed with the Moroccan spiced chickpeas. The kale, carrots, and celery add a healthy aspect that makes me feel less guilty about eating them with bread.
If you don’t mind non-gluten-free and non-vegan soups, their smoked chicken coconut curry soup is another one that always gets my taste buds excited. I like the creamy coconut milk, the hearty bamboo shoots, and that spicy kick from the red curry paste.
Pro Tip: If you’re a business looking to start your own soup place, they have private labels available.

Souptec has become my go-to spot when I’m craving comforting soups in Vancouver. This is mainly because their soups are always fresh, never frozen, and free of preservatives.
A personal favorite here is Grandma’s Chicken Noodle Soup. I like how they don’t skimp on the veggies. They load in all of the best mushrooms, celery, and carrots. Plus, the chicken is actually seasoned and not just boiled in broth like others.
For those wanting something even healthier, they have an interesting Beet Me Up Scotty soup. I’ve never been the biggest fan of beets, but the way they cook them in this soup makes me actually want second servings.
Following a Ukrainian beet soup recipe, they toss in some cabbage and serve it up with sour cream and their delicious rye bread.
Pro Tip: Give their beef barley soup a go if you like something similar to beef stew. It has barley, potatoes, carrots, and a rich bone broth.
3. Burgoo

Address: 3096 Main St
Hours: Monday to Sunday – 11 AM to 10 PM
Phone: +1 604-873-1441

Burgoo’s designed their restaurant around trying to help people have a bit of comfort while they eat.
Honestly, I love the countryside ambiance that the place has. It makes me feel like I’m eating my bowl of soup in a country tavern somewhere.
Their soups deliver on that promise of comfort as well. I particularly enjoy their lobster bisque. With just one spoonful, I can taste the fennel seed and that savoury, roasted red pepper cream.
They aren’t stingy with the lobster either. I usually find two good-sized lobster tails in my bowl. And yes, they taste like they’ve been dipped in just the right amount of butter.
Pro Tip: Each of their soups comes with a side salad!

If you’re looking for customizable soups in Vancouver, Wow Full Noodle House is a must-visit. You can create your own bowl with just 3 easy steps: pick your broth and protein, choose your noodles, and load up on vegetables and toppings.
My go-to first choice here is their flavourful Szechuan spicy beef broth. I don’t think it’s too spicy, but if you need something milder, then go with their Taiwan braised beef broth.
For noodles, I like to get their rice noodles because I like how they don’t completely soak up all the broth. If you’re not a fan of rice noodles, there are also Shanghai noodles available.
And for toppings, you’re only allowed to choose a maximum of 3 (unless you pay for more). I go with bean sprouts, cucumber, and cabbage. You can also go for carrots if you prefer them.
Pro Tip: You can dial in your spice level anywhere from not spicy to Szechuan spicy!
5. Pho Khanh Express (Beatty)

Pho Khanh Express gives a modern twist on classic traditional Vietnamese dishes, offering everything from gluten-free noodle bowls to banh mi.
But what earned it a spot on my top soups in Vancouver list is their pho (Vietnamese noodle soup). They have over 15 different kinds, so choosing just one can be a bit of a challenge.
So far, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every bowl I’ve tried. If I have to pick favorites, it’ll be either the rare steak and beef balls with rice noodles or the beef brisket and tripe with rice noodles.
Not everyone is a rare steak kind of person, but I think it adds a juicier flavour to the broth. As far as their beef brisket pho goes, I like that the brisket slices are not fatty at all.
For whatever pho you go with, though, each bowl comes with all the good fixings: bean sprouts, green and white onions, lime, and basil.
Pro Tip: If you’re super hungry or have a big appetite, try their X-large bowl size.
6. Stock Market

Address: 1689 Johnston St
Hours: Monday to Sunday – 9 AM to 6 PM
Phone: +1 604-687-2433

The Stock Market is where I go when I want a quick soup meal that I can eat in under 5 minutes. They make all their soups fresh daily and package them into easy-open resealable pouches for you to take home.
I enjoy their creamy smoked wild salmon chowder, inspired by the Scottish classic Cullen Skink (a soup made with potatoes, onion, and milk). The bay leaves and parsley they add give the smoked wild salmon an earthy flavour that I really like.
Another favorite of mine is the spicy African vegetable soup. It has a bold, warming flavour because of the cardamom, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne. The peanut butter and cinnamon add both sweet and savory flavours to the soup.
Pro Tip: They keep serving their hot soups up until 5:30 PM.
7. Mangez Mangez Cafe/Restaurant/Catering
– Media credit: mangezmangezcafe
Address: 1100 Melville St #120
Hours:
- Monday to Friday – 7 AM to 4 PM
- Saturday & Sunday – 7 AM to 12 PM
Phone: +1 604-669-4142

Mangez Mangez Cafe has tons of sandwiches, pastries, and some of the best soups in Vancouver. It’s the kind of place most people come in for a damn good panini and a bowl of soup.
I usually go for their Prosciutto panini. The roasted eggplant and the creamy Brie cheese usually pair well with whatever soup of the day they’re serving.
And since the lineup constantly changes, I get to try different soups every time I drop by. Sometimes it’s chicken noodle, other times it’s a hearty minestrone or a delicious chowder.
The only catch is that the soups aren’t listed on the menu or available for takeout, so you’ll need to ask at the counter what’s on offer. For me, that little bit of surprise makes every visit more exciting.
Pro Tip: They have a delicious cranberry and pumpkin seed muffin that I always snag when I can. Try it if you like Thanksgiving dessert-style muffins.
8. Fat Mao Noodles (Thai Soup Noodles)-Chinatown
– Media credit: fatmaonoodles
Address: 217 E Georgia St
Hours:
- Monday to Friday – 11:30 AM to 9 PM
- Saturday & Sunday – 11:30 AM to 4 PM, 5 PM to 9 PM
Phone: +1 604-569-8192

Fat Mao Noodles is a place that definitely always leaves me waddling out like a penguin. It’s just really hard not to overeat when the food is this good.
They’re a modern noodle bar that serves up some of the best Thai-style soups in Vancouver. The menu gives you seven different kinds of soups to choose from, along with five noodle options.
I like their Khao Soi soup the most. It’s a soup from the northern part of Thailand (think city of Chiang Rai) that has earned a place on my list of favorite soups to eat.
Their take on this curry soup is very creamy, and the pickled mustard greens add a slightly salty flavour that meshes well with the braised chicken leg. Normally, I get this soup with their wonton egg noodles because they don’t get super soggy.
Pro Tip: For dessert, do try their Milo Roti. This is a delicious crepe-like flat bread covered in sweet, condensed milk and sprinkled with chocolate powder.
9. BEEST Roast beef marinated ramen – Vancouver
– Media credit: beest_vancouver
Address: 770 Bute St
Hours: Monday to Sunday – 11:30 AM to 10:30 PM
Phone: +1 866-394-2608

BEEST Ramen has some of the most creative ramen I’ve ever had. Yes, ramen is considered a form of soup for all the critics in the back of the room.
This Japanese restaurant has plenty of options, but there are two bowls that I particularly like: the black garlic shio and the creamy tomato. They’re easy contenders for anyone looking for the best soups in Vancouver.
The black garlic shio ramen is full of their signature roast beef, with the black garlic oil adding a deep, almost luxurious flavour. On the other hand, the creamy tomato ramen pairs with the tomato-based broth.
And if you’re vegan, you’ll be glad to know they can make their ramen vegan-friendly too!
Pro Tip: They have delicious Japanese sodas here. I love their melon soda because it comes topped with vanilla ice cream.
10. Tractor Everyday Healthy Foods – Marine Building
– Media credit: tractorfoods
Address: 335 Burrard St
Hours:
- Monday to Friday – 7 AM to 8:30 PM
- Saturday & Sunday – 8 AM to 8:30 PM
Phone: +1 604-343-1195
Price: $
One thing I like about Tractor Everyday Healthy Foods is that they make it easy for you to meal prep. All their food is packaged in easy-to-go containers, including their soups.
They have about two different soups that you can try on the menu: ginger chili tomato soup and red lentil and greens soup.
Their ginger chili tomato soup has quite a bit of a kick to it, but it has great flavour. I like how the fennel doesn’t overpower the garlic and the Roma tomatoes.
The red lentil and greens soup is the heartier choice with crunchy celery, lemony potatoes, and crisp spinach.
Pro Tip: Try their Harissa Chicken sandwich if you love a good ciabatta done right.
11. Soupway
– Media credit: soupwayvancouver
Address: 302 Industrial Ave
Hours: Monday to Sunday – 12 PM to 10:30 PM
Phone: +1 778-991-0683
Price: $$
Soupway is the spot for chemical-free soup that doesn’t skimp on all the yummy flavours you know and love. They have an awesome range of soups, from chicken soups to beef soups.
I like to get their tortilla soup. It’s smoky and bold, with the mozzarella melting into the rich chicken broth. Adding avocado and sour cream makes it even creamier, while the tortilla chips give it that perfect, crispy finishing touch.
They also have a really yummy beef chipotle soup that’s cooked with 100% natural beef broth. Packed with rice, chickpeas, and potatoes, it’s a very filling and satisfying meal.
Pro Tip: The waiting time at the restaurant can be long! If you don’t have much time to spare, I recommend ordering online through their website or via Uber Eats.
