There’s nothing that lights a fire under folks quite like a good competition, especially if you’ve got a physical pursuit! You don’t even need to want to beat someone, but personally, I’ve gotten pretty good results when I’m actively aiming to top a record.

Now, if you’ve been in the fitness scene here, you’ve probably also heard of Hyrox: 1-kilometer runs followed by exercise, all totaling up to 8-kilometers and 8 workouts. The fitness gym I go to recently held a competition, and newsflash: I kind of sucked.

Well, now I just had to redeem myself! Luckily, after some snooping with my gym buddies, we found no shortage of dedicated Hyrox fitness gyms here in Vancouver.

If you’re ready to really lock into your workout routine, here are our favorites to try a class at!

How much does it cost to go to a Hyrox fitness gym in Vancouver?

Getting a training plan for Hyrox at a dedicated Hyrox fitness gym in Vancouver can cost you anywhere from $150 to $650, depending on the length of the training program and the number of classes included.

If you’re thinking of Hyrox prep in Vancouver, it’s hard not to mention the Function Health Club. Folks who enjoy semi-private training were happy to point us in their direction as a good spot for Hyrox training, and we couldn’t resist a visit.

Right off the jump, we immediately appreciated the personalized training offered at the gym! Hyrox is a competition that can be entered into at any level, so we especially appreciated the gym’s tailoring of its plans to various skill levels.

We also noticed the smaller class sizes, starting from pairs to groups of 4. These were pretty handy for customers coming in with friends or family, especially those who prefer to work out with folks they feel comfortable around.

These class sizes also helped with letting instructors get a read on everyone, as a few learners let us know. This is especially important for folks looking to participate in competitions, so we were pleased to hear this!

That said, we do have to note that the prices per session and membership at the gym can be pretty high. We’d definitely try going for a drop-in class first to see if the gym’s ambiance and style fit you.

Pros

  • Personalized training plans for Hyrox prep
  • Smaller class sizes
  • Good attention paid to individual learners

Cons

  • Higher fees for services

You are able to get a good amount of attention

“I can honestly say that this gym is all about the community and doing things right. The coaches really focus on improving your form and given that the class sizes are small you are able to get a good amount of attention especially if you are a beginner.”

– Mr. Ashutosh Bagga, Google Review

The community is very welcoming

“Decided to go with the personalized plan to prepare for HYROX and it is great. The classes are challenging, small, and the community is very welcoming. I highly recommend the Function Health Club!”

We’ve got Vancouver’s CrossFit community to thank for this one! 604 Athletics has been a go-to spot for folks looking to get into CrossFit, so you can imagine our surprise when locals mentioned the gym rising in popularity as a Hyrox destination.

We decided to swing by, though we admittedly had some trouble finding the gym’s physical location. We recommend calling the gym ahead and asking for directions just in case, so you don’t make our mistake!

Once we got there, though, we were pleased to see that the gym was quite large on the inside, with plenty of gym space. The equipment was similarly well-maintained, and there were just enough available that learners didn’t need to wait long to work out.

When we asked learners about their Hyrox programs, we got to hear some good things! The program reportedly helped folks focus on their strength and conditioning, with ample practice times and sessions for the race as well.

Finally, quite a few customers also mentioned the availability of free consultations at the gym. If you’re looking to get started with Hyrox and gauge your fitness level beforehand, we’d recommend taking up one of these before committing to the program.

Pros

  • Large and comfortable gym space
  • Free consultations available
  • Reliable training programs

Cons

  • Difficulty finding location

Given how demanding competition-level training can get, finding a gym to help you focus on it can be pretty tricky. Luckily, locals taking part in both weightlifting and Hyrox were happy to recommend the Dynasty Gym to us.

It wasn’t hard to see why, especially when we first reached out. The team was pretty quick to respond to our inquiries, letting us know about the details of their training programs, pricing, and even the recommended number of sessions!

Their competition training programs were also pretty varied once we got to check them out. These ranged from Olympic weightlifting to Hyrox, with options for personal training in both for learners who benefit from one-on-one sessions.

We also appreciated the various intensity levels for their workouts. Newcomers to Hyrox, we got to chat with them and even mentioned their programs being readily accessible even to customers completely new to Hyrox and CrossFit.

On that note, a few learners did advise us to try to ask for their class schedule and ask about the availability of their classes. Those going for drop-in classes mentioned having trouble availing spots, so booking early is also highly suggested.

Pros

  • Good competition training programs
  • Quick and responsive team
  • Different intensity levels available

Cons

  • Difficulty obtaining drop-in class spots

Comfortable since the first day I started

“I’ve been training for a month and it’s been a great experience! It is spacious, well-equipped, and always kept clean. The trainers are great! Gabe and Rachael have really made me feel good and comfortable since the first day I started.”

I enjoyed the programming

“Dropped in while out of town. Coaches were knowledgeable and welcoming, and I enjoyed the programming for the few days I was there. Highly recommend if you are traveling. They have enough space for you to do some mobility before class starts.”

Anyone who’s been in the fitness scene will know that the risk of strain can be pretty high. Sometimes, we get so locked into pushing ourselves that we go past the safe threshold entirely: something spots like Kin Culture reportedly help prevent!

With the gym being a popular spot for folks who struggle with injuries, we had to ask learners about what drew them to the gym. Many were happy to praise the attention to their form during classes, especially for preventing further injury!

To aid with this, a few learners also mentioned the gym’s personalized training and exercise regimens. These could be modified to help accommodate any conditions and comfort levels, which can come in handy for beginners and veterans alike.

We also noted the team at Kin Culture, especially the trainers! Learners mentioned having a wide variety of trainers to work with between different training programs and classes, so finding someone to match your style and comfort is a bit easier.

We do have to note that the gym space itself could still be improved. Some learners at the gym mentioned struggling with the acoustics at the gym, making it hard to hear instructors while classes are ongoing.

Pros

  • Good attention paid to form and injury prevention
  • Personalized training and exercise regimens
  • Wide variety of trainers

Cons

  • Gym spaces can still be improved

“My strength class with Annika was amazing! Truly loved how personalized the experience felt and the encouragement to go for heavier weights. She was so attentive to all of us and our form.”

– Ms. Nika Moeini, Google Review

“I love the mobility warm-ups. The instructors are amazing and are true experts in their field. They always take the time to speak to you individually, do corrections and modify exercises if you’re working with an injury.”

Whether you’re a newcomer or a pro, getting into a new gym can always be a daunting experience. With this in mind, we got to ask a few newcomers to Hyrox for their favorite starting spot to get into training, and that’s how Denman Athletics landed on our radar!

On our visit, we got to chat with a few learners and instructors alike. We found the atmosphere pretty welcoming, with instructors readily helping various learners get into the proper form and get through the race’s steps.

The team was also pretty informative, which was quite the highlight for learners. The instructors reportedly explained what each exercise was targeting and the steps needed, helping learners gain a better understanding of what they’re doing.

Another highlight was the feedback given by the instructors as well! Learners mentioned the gym readily running through assessments to help learners gauge their improvement, so the feedback helped guide learners on what to focus on next.

That being said, we did notice that most of their classes were held in small or larger groups. Some gym goers mentioned having difficulty getting one-on-one personal training at the gym, so we’d advise asking if they offer it before going.

Pros

  • Professional and informative team
  • Good atmosphere for beginners
  • Feedback readily provided for improvement

Cons

  • Difficulty getting one-on-one training
