The 5 Best Dance Classes in Vancouver where Anyone Can Learn to Dance

dance-classes-in-vancouver
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Instructors: I looked into and verified the dance instructors' experience with teaching various styles of dance.
  • Safety: As someone who falls quite a bit, I checked if the studios had injury-prevention setups or safety measures in case of injury.
  • Classes:  During the classes I took, I considered the style of teaching, the dance lesson difficulty, the class vibes, and more.
  • Reviews: I stalked Instagram Reels and Reddit rants, and did my best to avoid places that people felt were overrated. I looked for dance classes where people raved about the excellent vibes, lessons, and dance moves.

Dance classes are definitely not for the weak. I usually have my nose in a good book, not apologizing a hundred times for stepping on my dance partner’s foot.

So, if you’re anything like me and dance with two left feet, I’ve got you. I looked into the best dance classes in Vancouver to see which ones are perfect for all learners, regardless of their dance experience.

Here’s who I found.

How much does it cost to do dance classes in Vancouver?

It costs at least 10 CAD for group dance classes, but at least 50 CAD for private dance classes in Vancouver. This is just an estimate. The actual price will depend on the type of dance class, the instructor, and more.

Dance Vancouver offers beginners two weeks of unlimited classes for $50 (solo) and $80 for couples. Yes, I tested it out—it’s not a scam.

Each class I took with Dance Vancouver had a partner-rotation system. That means every few minutes you’re dancing with someone new.

While I think this is great for social butterflies, those on the shy side could find this a bit awkward.

That aside, I like how the instructors at Dance Vancouver help even the most rhythmically challenged (aka like me) find their groove.

I loved the energetic vibes of the Afro-Cuban and Reggaeton classes. The instructors were lively, and the moves I learned are ones I wouldn’t be ashamed to post on social media.

Many students also appreciate the variety of classes they have. They have salsa, bachata fusion, Latin hustle, Cuban rumba, and more.

Most newbie students start off in their Level 1  zero-pressure classes. But if you want to try an advanced class, you have to do a dance assessment.

They also allow drop-ins, but they charge you fees. At least, for regulars, the class pass and the membership save them some cash.

Pros

  • Two weeks of unlimited classes
  • Come solo or with a partner
  • Helps even the most rhythmically challenged
  • Energetic vibes
  • Lively instructors
  • Fun dance moves
  • Variety of classes
  • Drop-ins allowed
  • Class passes and memberships

Cons

  • Partner rotating system can be awkward
  • Dance assessment required to move up levels
  • Drop in class fees

What I love most about DVS is the community spirit

I recommend this dance studio to everyone I know! The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming, and the instructors are just amazing! The Sunday rueda de casino classes with Juan Carlos have become my favorite hobby and the absolute highlight of my week. I’ve really enjoyed learning rueda de casino, and Juan Carlos’ high-energy, fun teaching style makes it easy to get started and motivates you to keep improving. With two levels available for rueda, it’s easy to start as a beginner and then challenge yourself as you go. What I love most about DVS is the community spirit—everyone is encouraging, and it feels like being part of a fun, dance-loving family. If you want to experience salsa in a lively, community-focused environment with great teachers, this is definitely the place to be!”

There are plenty of different classes

“This dance studio is amazing! The people here are so nice and welcoming and the instructors are very competent. There are plenty of different classes, including many different styles of Salsa/Bachata, with partnerwork, movement, and shines lessons. I can especially recommend the Rueda classes on Sunday. I’ve never danced Cuban Salsa or Rueda de Casino before and I fell in love with it immediately! The teachers explain everything very well to quickly get you started… and it’s just sooo much fun! If you are thinking about starting your Salsa/Bachata journey — seek no further! The “New Student Deal” at DVS offers a great opportunity to try out all the classes at a reduced cost. And don’t forget to check out their Friday socials! 🥳”

Harbour Dance Studio offers over 100 classes in a single week, covering more than 20 dance styles. They teach all levels, and it’s easy to sign up.

All I had to do was create an account, check their schedule, and book my class. If you want to save time, I suggest using their app, The HDC App. Everything is all in one place—schedules for all their classes, workshops, and more.

Class-wise, I enjoyed how their contemporary jazz class was a virtual class, but still had me sweating at the end of the hour.

They also have in-person sessions too. I loved their Beginner’s Keep it Sexy class. This class had me busting moves like Beyoncé left and right.

Several advanced learners love how their awesome training groups allow them the opportunity to work with some of the best dancers in the industry. Many said they could show off their skills in live performances and embrace the dancer they are.

The only thing I’d watch out for is their intro offers. Sure, they get you a good deal on the first classes, but you’re not allowed any refunds or transfers. It also expires in a month.

Pros

  • Over 100 classes
  • Over 20 dance styles
  • Easy sign up
  • The HDC app
  • Virtual and in-person classes
  • Awesome training groups
  • Live performance opportunities

Cons

  • No refunds or transfers
  • Intro offer expires in a month

The energy here is unmatched

“Moving to a new city alone can be tough, but Harbour Dance gave me a community right away. I’ve found friends, purpose, and a place where I can take care of my mental health while doing something I truly love. The classes are challenging but so much fun, and the energy here is unmatched. Dance has become a big part of how I stay grounded, and I’m so grateful to Harbour for creating a space where everyone feels welcome.”

They offer lots of levels

“Harbour Dance Centre is the BEST! I’ve been taking classes here for 20 years. I highly recommend going to try out a class. They offer lots of levels from absolute beginner to advanced professional. Each instructor offers something unique, so be sure to test them out and check out the many different styles offered. Love the community and vibe, so glad Drop-in classes are available in our city!”

  • Friday – 1:45 PM to 10 PM

At Arthur Murray, each lesson is taught in 4 easy-to-understand steps. They teach everything from the waltz, rumba, and the foxtrot. They even teach quickstep and dances for weddings!

One thing I like is that there is no set time limit on their classes. The length of the class is dependent on how many dances you want to learn.

Their new student offer (which I took advantage of) included 4 individual lessons, 2 group classes, and 1 practice party. In all of the lessons I took, I loved how specific the instructors were in their feedback.

They actually tell you why your cha-cha is a bit off, or that your hip movements are too sharp.

Other students appreciate their Arthur Murray® Schools of Dance’s specialized teaching system. They have a range of dance programs, ranging from basic skills to gold-level professional dancers. But the price does increase as you go up in levels.

That aside, newbies love that their introductory program allows them to work one-on-one with a professional, certified Arthur Murray instructor.

I also appreciate that they conduct an interview to gain a deeper understanding of your personal dance goals and then recommend the best dance program for you.

Pros

  • 4 easy-to-understand dance steps
  • Wide range of dance styles
  • No set time limit on their classes
  • New student offer
  • Specific instructors
  • Specialized dance programs

Cons

  • Prices increase depending on the difficulty level

Teaches you a few easier dances

“Studio and teachers are really great. We have the intro package which teaches you a few easier dances to see what you like. There are social distance classes as well as zoom based ones (we have seen those for groups) and everyone is wearing a mask which is great.”

Patient & lovely people

“Its a place where you get kind ,patient & lovely people as your trainer/Teachers, Even overall everyone is really  warm…..They are like International Champions but you can never tell as they are just so humble!! If there is any iota of doubt or you’re perturbed about the price and wanna go elsewhere, Let me assure YOU WILL GET TRUE EXCELLENCE!!……I highly highly recommend Anthony (kind, super fun, TRUE PERFECTION!!) & Curt (Soooo Patient, Fun ,YOU’LL NEVER BE BORED WHEN HE IS TEACHING )……..Now go and start dancing :)”

Made Talent’s $29 for two drop-in classes is an insane value. They make every style, from Heels to Latin Fusion, feel accessible and exhilarating.

I dragged my two-left-feet self to their beginners’ Heels class (yes, actual stilettos!). I left feeling like I’d hacked my confidence.

I love that the instructor didn’t just demo moves. She taught the class how to balance without wobbling, pivot with control, and own our stride like we were walking a runway.

Now, while it was easy to book my class online, I noticed that a lot of their spots for classes like ballet and contemporary vanish fast. So, if you are interested in those, I’d say sign up weeks in advance.

That aside, I like that they have plenty of programs for kids too. They have recreational hip hop, ballet, jazz, and more. Parents love how these programs teach their kids the importance of community and proper dance techniques.

Others love the youth summer dance camp. I like how they offer two options—half-day and whole-day—full of dance-centered activities and performances.

Pros

  • $29 for two drop-in class deal
  • Confidence-boosting heels class
  • Easy online booking
  • Plenty of programs for kids
  • Offers youth summer dance camp

Cons

  • Spots for classes fill up fast

Allowed us to challenge ourselves, get out of our comfort zone

I just wrapped up a 9-week hip hop progressive program with Zarina, and my experience with her, the other staff, and fellow dancers has been nothing short of extraordinary. Zarina really has a knack at making people feel safe, supported, and welcomed. The studio truly felt like a second home, which allowed us to challenge ourselves, get out of our comfort zone, and perform at our fullest potential.

Oh, and if you’re looking to enroll your little ones into dance, Made Talents has an extensive program for children and youth. Zarina and the staff here are really good with kids, and it was heartwarming to see their bond on and off the stage. I’m happy I took that leap of faith and signed up for the progressive program after trying a drop-in class with Zarina last year. It’s truly been an unforgettable experience, and cannot wait to try their other programs and classes.

I highly highly recommend this studio for everyone, especially if you’re new to dance or looking for a supportive dancing community in Vancouver!”

The studio offers a variety of dance styles,

“I wanted to take a moment to share my experience working with Made Talent Dance Studio, which has proven to be an excellent place for teaching students the fundamental skills of dance. I had the pleasure of collaborating with them last year when they visited our school to assist with my dance unit. They worked with students in grades 6, 7, and 9, and also hosted a small dance workshop for our grade 9 students at their studio. This year, we were fortunate to have Made Talent Dance Studio return for another week. They taught students from grades 6 through 10 and once again demonstrated their professionalism and skill. The studio offers a variety of dance styles, which enhances the learning experience for students. I highly recommend Made Talent Dance Studio for any events, school classes, or activities. Their expertise and dedication make them a valuable asset to any dance program.”

5. The Landing Dance Centre

Address: 270 SW Marine Dr

Contact Details: +16043258653

Operating Hours:

  • Monday – 12 PM to 5 PM
  • Tuesday to Thursday – 12 PM to 9 PM
  • Friday – 12 PM to 3 PM

Website

The Landing Dance Centre is perfect for parents with kids ages 2 to 18 who want to dedicate themselves to dance. I love that they have programs tailored to every developmental stage, starting with Landing Littles.

The parents I talked to raved about the annual Landing Little recitals. Many shared how adorable their toddlers looked doing their hip hop, ballet, tap, and jazz moves.

Other parents appreciated that the lessons aren’t chaotic. The teachers channel that preschool energy into their teaching techniques to teach the little ones.

For older kids (6 to 18), they have Performance Dance Classes.  Although they have a strict dress code, many students liked the focus and the structure the instructors brought to the lessons.

What I think is really cool, though, is their Aerial Cirque classes. In these classes, kids and teens can dangle from silks, do trapeze, and master the aerial hoop.

The biggest downside, though?  There are no adult classes.

Pros

  • Classes for kids 2 to 18
  • Adorable Landing little recitals
  • Non-chaotic classes
  • Focus on dance and structure
  • Awesome Aerial Cirque classes

Cons

  • No adult classes
  • Strict dress code

She truly enjoys the classes and feels inspired

“My daughter is currently enrolled in the spring tap and ballet class at the Landing Dance Center. She truly enjoys the classes and feels inspired by the teachers and staff. We’re looking forward to enrolling her in the September program and hope she can continue developing her dance skills in a supportive team environment.”

Our daughter had so much fun

“We brought our 3.5-year-old daughter to Landing Dance Center for a free trial class, and it was a wonderful experience! The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, making the process smooth and enjoyable. The lobby is clean and comfortable, with convenient viewing screens that let us watch the class without disrupting the children. Our daughter had so much fun, and we were so impressed that we decided to continue with regular classes. Highly recommend Landing Dance Center to anyone considering dance classes for their little ones!”
