Get Lasting Pain Relief with the Best Bunion Surgeries in Vancouver from These 5 Clinics

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Procedure Range & Customization: We looked at whether they use minimally invasive techniques, reserve traditional procedures for complex cases, or focus on prevention first.

Patient Support & Clarity: We picked teams that take time to explain terms, outline recovery timelines, and provide helpful resources.

Care Coordination: For those with complex needs, we assessed whether providers collaborate with other specialists (e.g., vascular surgeons or physiotherapists) and provide quick access to imaging or follow-up care.

Accessibility: We considered how easy it is to get an appointment. We looked at whether referrals are needed, how long wait times are, and if they help with practical things like footwear guidance or insurance questions.

Bunions are just the worst. Anyone who has ever hobbled their way to the kitchen in the morning, wincing at every step because of that stubborn bump at the base of their big toe, gets what I mean.

Wider shoes and foot pads may help for a while, but they’re usually just for short-term fixes. When bunions start affecting how you walk or get through the day, surgery often becomes the most effective option for lasting relief.

The tricky part is finding the right surgeon. With so many clinics in Vancouver, choosing one can feel almost as uncomfortable as squeezing into the wrong pair of shoes.

To make it easier, we reviewed the credentials and treatment methods of top podiatrists in the city and interviewed patients for firsthand feedback. After much research, we listed our top picks for bunion surgery in Vancouver below!

How much does bunion surgery cost in Vancouver?

Private clinics in Vancouver charge at least $5,000 for bunion surgery. At public clinics, fees are partially subsidized for insured patients. This is just an estimate. The actual price will depend on the clinic you go to.

Vancouver Podiatry’s heavy focus on a minimally invasive approach is what earned them a spot on our top bunion surgery clinics in Vancouver list.

They specialize in using the Tricorrectional Bunionectomy (TCB) procedure. It’s a surgery that shifts the bone into place with a small screw, so it stays stable as it heals.

Around 90% of their cases use this method, with only the most severe bunions getting the traditional Lapidus procedure.

We also liked how efficient their doctors are before and after the surgery. Patients we talked to shared that they appreciated how the doctors gave them a clear rundown of the procedure, as it helped calm their nerves.

The biggest win is recovery. Patients we spoke to raved about the speed of recovery and loved being back at work and even hitting the gym within days, not months.

The downside comes into play if you need a traditional Lapidus procedure. Patients told us recovery was much longer, with some spending up to 10 weeks in a cast without weight-bearing.

Pros

  • Minimally invasive approach
  • TCB specialization
  • Efficient doctors
  • Patients can bear weight immediately

Cons

  • Long recovery for traditional surgery

Amazing job correcting my bunion and giving me a beautiful result

“Dr. Mathews did such an amazing job correcting my bunion and giving me a beautiful result. He checked me every two weeks for the first month and was very good at explaining exactly what I needed to do in order to have the best outcome. It was obvious to me from the first appointment that he had a lot of knowledge and experience in doing this type of procedure. I highly recommend Dr. Mathews to anyone seeking help with bunions.”

Thank you so very much Dr Matthews, for your kindness, professionalism, caring and expertise.

“I cannot Thank Dr Matthews enough for giving me pain free mobility again.

He did bunion surgery on my left foot a year and a half ago and I only wish I had done it sooner. He was very thorough in his explanation of the surgery while looking at my xray. I was given very clear instructions on what to expect and after care ( which I followed exactly).

The surgery itself was pain free ( of course I was nervous but Dr Matthews was very reassuring and compassionate) and I did walk out of the surgical center.

I was back in my running shoes within a few weeks and back to work as a dental assistant. I used no pain medication during my recovery, as I did not need it.

The scar is completely invisible and my only regret is I let fear keep me pushing the surgery down the road.

If I had know this was going be such a positive experience I would of done it years ago.

Thank you so very much Dr Matthews, for your kindness, professionalism, caring and expertise.

I believe your choice of surgeon makes all the difference in your surgery and recovery experience! both were excellent and I can’t recommend Dr Matthews and his team highly enough!”

2. Vancouver Orthotics (Head Office) for Flat Feet, Foot Pain, Heel Pain, Plantar Fasciitis and Bunions

Address: 3195 Granville St #114

Contact Details: +16047373668

Operating Hours:

  • Monday, Thursday – 11 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Tuesday & Wednesday – 10 AM to 6:30  PM
  • Friday – 9:30 AM to 3 PM

Vancouver Orthotics is the spot for minimally invasive bunion surgery and for anyone dreading the thought of months in a cast.

Rather than the old-school approach with big incisions and long downtimes, their surgeons use techniques designed to reduce tissue trauma.

They make 3 small incisions, each less than ¼ inch long, to speed recovery and get patients back on their feet quickly.

Several people mentioned being able to walk comfortably in days, with some back in regular shoes far sooner than expected.

We also like how the surgeons at Vancouver Orthotics walk patients through every step, explaining what to expect.

We also appreciated that the clinic offers a well-rounded approach. For those not yet ready for surgery, they offer biomechanical exams and non-surgical options such as custom orthotics.

That said, the focus on minimally invasive surgery means they might not be the spot for the most extreme, complex cases. So, those with a bunion that looks like it’s staging a coup on the entire foot may need a different specialist.

Pros

  • Minimally invasive surgery with fast recovery,
  • Less downtime
  • Offers non-surgical options
  • Explains every step clearly to patients

Cons

  • Not ideal for most extreme/complex bunion cases

The doctor is very nice and welcoming

“I want to share how happy I am meeting Dr Michael. I have got 2 pairs of custom orthotic inserts,  one for my everyday sport shoes and one for my indoor work shoes. My feet feel much happier and comfortable comparing with the previous pre-made inserts. I can’t wait next year to buy orthotics for my sandals. The bunion and ankle pain significantly have decreased since I have been wearing them on a daily basis.  Additionally,  the doctor is very nice and welcoming,  very experienced and explained in details why that happened and how helpful the orthotics are, which is true. Thank you Dr Michael and all the best!”

They are really familiar, efficient, patient, and helpful

“I have inherited bunion issue and have been suffering from severe pain for months. I try to avoid a surgery as I want to keep my current level of activities. Then I found Vancouver Orthotics, read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Dr. Michael is a really nice and professional person. We had a pleasant conversation and he gave me a lot of confidence that with the help of the customized orthotics I can fix my bunion without necessarily dropping my active level. Also, they are really familiar, efficient, patient, and helpful with the insurance materials. I got my expenses refurbished from my insurer in a week.

After my first visiting, my orthotics were ready in about 2 weeks. I tried them for a week before I wrote this review. At the beginning, I felt some unfamiliar pain in other parts (other than bunion) of my feet, but from a follow-up email sent by Dr. Michael I understand that the minor pains are normal and are signals that the orthotics are taking effects. After one week, not only the minor pains are gone, my pain level from bunion also significantly dropped. That brings me to write this review and hope this is helpful for someone who suffers from the same issue as me.”

3. Vancouver Foot and Ankle Clinic

What sets Vancouver Foot and Ankle Clinic apart is its ability to handle even the most complex cases. Their surgical podiatrists are some of the most trained in Canada, and they’ve even pioneered new foot and ankle treatments here.

We love their multidisciplinary approach. Those who need help from other specialists (like vascular surgeons, physiotherapists, or rheumatologists) have direct access to them.

One patient we spoke with had bunions and poor circulation, so they were able to see a vascular specialist the same week for a full assessment.

They also get imaging like ultrasounds or MRIs done quickly. This means there’s no need to wait weeks for results, just a few days.

Their bunion surgeries are just as efficient. Patients observed minimal scarring and quick pain relief.

The downside? Because they focus on complex cases, their appointment wait times can be longer than average.

We heard from a patient who had to wait six weeks for an initial consultation, and while they said the care was worth it, they wished they could have gotten answers sooner when their pain was flaring up.

Pros

  • Handles complex cases, pioneered new treatments
  • Multidisciplinary access to specialists (vascular, physio, etc.)
  • Fast imaging (ultrasound/MRI results in days)
  • Minimal scarring
  • Quick pain relief post-surgery

Cons

  • Longer appointment wait times

Doesn’t rush patients and take time to explain issues

“I’ve been dealing with pins and needles in my foot for years following and accident.  Dr. Patel ordered x-rays and ultrasounds and then had me back in to go over the results.  Dr. Patel wasn’t rushed and took time to explain the issues surrounding my foot and it he treatment options and plan.

After deciding on a plan Dr. Patel then did the moulds for the orthotics which are now on order.

I was very impressed with Dr. Patel which is why I’m writing one of my rare reviews.

Thanks Dr. Patel!”

Ian Christie

I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Patel and her team!

“Dr. Alysha Patel at the Vancouver Foot and Ankle Clinic has truly transformed my life. I was dealing with debilitating plantar fasciitis pain that made even simple tasks unbearable. Thanks to Dr. Patel’s expert care and a customized treatment plan, I’m not only pain-free but also able to fully participate in life again. I can now enjoy activities I love and, most importantly, play with my son without discomfort or limitations.

Her compassionate approach, clear communication, and the modern, welcoming clinic environment made the entire process seamless and encouraging. If you’re looking for a podiatrist who genuinely cares and delivers results, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Patel and her team!”

4. Dr. Gregory Laakmann

Operating Hours: Monday to Thursday – 8 AM to 3 PM

Dr. Laakmann treats his patients’ feet as part of their whole lives, not just a medical problem, and that’s exactly why he made our list.

A patient told us he spent nearly 20 minutes examining her bunion from different angles. She also appreciated that he discussed her concerns before even mentioning surgery as an option.

Instead of just giving generic advice, we love that he tells his patients where to shop for supportive shoes or tools like toe spacers. For those who can’t remember, he prints out all his notes and recommendations.

Best of all, patients don’t need a referral from their GP. They can just call and book. Patients mentioned booking an appointment the same week their bunions flared up, avoiding the usual runaround of seeing their GP first.

The only small gripe we heard? Calling his office can be a bit of a headache. One patient mentioned she had to call three times before getting through.

Pros

  • Holistic approach
  • Takes time with appointments
  • Gives personalized advice
  • Prints out notes/recommendations
  • No GP referral needed

Cons

  • Hard to reach by phone

His expertise is unparalleled, and I wholeheartedly endorse him.

Dr. Laakmann is hands down the top podiatrist in town. I had been to several other podiatrists who, after multiple visits, x-rays, and imaging studies, were unable to determine the root cause of my foot pain and strain. However, after just one visit with Dr. Laakman, he was able to pinpoint the issue and provide a solution.  His expertise is unparalleled, and I wholeheartedly endorse him.

If you are in need of a podiatrist stop looking now because you’ve found the best one.

“If you are in need of a podiatrist stop looking now because you’ve found the best one.

Dr.Laakmann and his team are hands down some of the greatest people! Maria at the front desk is so fun and happy, she gets everything sorted and makes you feel so comfortable as soon as you walk in the door – she is such a star! And Dr.Laakmann is also just as friendly. He answers every single question you ask which is so helpful, and also talks to you like a real person, making you laugh, sharing personal stories to make you feel more comfortable about your visit. He is OUTSTANDING, also incredibly gentle and cautious with your foot. 10/10 visit, I will never go elsewhere.

Cannot recommend him enough.”

Contact Details: +16043318585

Operating Hours:

  • Monday, Thursday & Friday – 8 AM to 12 PM
  • Tuesday & Wednesday – 8 AM to 2:0 PM

Dr. Yee stands out from other Vancouver podiatrist bunion surgery providers because of how well she listens and how targeted her care is.

Patients we spoke with appreciated getting not just a diagnosis, but real options and a plan to kick bunion pain to the curb.

She does a full exam, explains exactly what’s happening in simple terms, and lays out all the patient’s options.

One patient told us Dr. Yee noticed her bunion was linked to muscle tension. She gave her stretches, adjusted her footwear recommendations, and even got her booked for a surgery.

When it comes to actual bunion surgery, Dr. Yee is popular for her meticulous approach.

We love that she guides patients through pre-surgery preparation, what to expect during the procedure, and the full recovery timeline.

Patients also love how Dr. Yee provides clear instructions for post-surgery care, including pain management, wound care, and gradual return to walking.

That said, people have complained to us about the waiting times. Several people told us they got annoyed having to wait for almost 30 minutes.

Pros

  • Listens well, provides clear diagnosis and options
  • Links issues to root causes (e.g., muscle tension)
  • Meticulous surgery prep and post-care guidance
  • Explains everything in simple terms

Cons

  • Long in-office wait times (up to 30 minutes)

They also treated it effectively, bringing me immediate relief.

“I can’t thank Dr. Julie Yee enough for the care and expertise she provided. After years of unexplained foot pain and multiple doctors who overlooked or misdiagnosed the issue, Dr. Yee quickly identified my problem — something no one else had caught. Not only did they diagnose the problem right away, but they also treated it effectively, bringing me immediate relief.

For the first time in years, I can walk comfortably without constant pain. Dr. Yee was knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely listened to my concerns. Their attention to detail and commitment to patient care truly set them apart. I only wish I had found them sooner!”

I had a very good experience with dr Yee

“I had a very good experience with Dr Yee. I went to see her for foot pain . She explained everything honestly and answered all my questions patiently.”
