Big mistake. I spent an afternoon convinced I was an appliance repair wizard before realising I wasn’t, when I finally called the repair guy.
To be exact, I called several repair guys! The first one’s quote was astronomical, the second one was cheap but made the problem worse, and the third was the one who finally fixed my issue.
But obviously, no one wants to go through that sort of trial just to get their dryer working again. That’s how I ended up with the idea for today’s roundup.
The rest of the Waterview Vancouver team helped me gather a mess of broken appliances from friends, volunteers, and local junkyards to put the city’s repairmen to the test. Ultimately, we judged the ones below to be Vancouver’s best repair companies!

From vintage espresso makers to fancy downdraft ventilation systems, Appliance Repair Vancouver seems able to handle it all.
One of the things I liked was that their website made it clear which brands they service. I think this gives peace of mind to people like me with appliances still kicking from the 90s and, heaven forbid, older.
However, despite their long list of repair services online, I couldn’t find a single repair fee estimate anywhere. It would be great to see them offer some estimated repair costs on their website, or at least a range depending on the appliance.
Despite this, Mark, one of their main repairmen, was spot on with fixing our test coffee maker with their same-day repair services. (And yes, their repair came with a one-year warranty.)
I did think the price was a little bit on the high side for just a coffee machine repair, but one often has to pay for speed and quality, so it’s not too big a pain point.

We called VASP to come check out a pretty busted-up fridge someone handed over to us for this article’s research. The start wasn’t exactly great though.
That’s because we tried scheduling an appointment online only to find it a chore. Their whole booking system was such a drag—which was odd, because calling directly was a breeze!
We were able to chat with Nick, their service tech, who gave us a verbal quote over the phone. That’s always good: it helps you compare prices and budget for the repair.
The actual quote was on the high side, though. While we were a little bit taken back by the $135 diagnostic fee and the $50 per half-hour labour fee, we did appreciate knowing exactly what we were getting into.
It’s worth noting that had we been returning customers, we could’ve availed of their 20% discount. Still, we decided to try them out.
Nick wasted no time coming out to repair our fridge. He was as friendly in person as he was over the phone!
Having dealt with repair people who speak a language that sounds vaguely like Klingon, we also liked how Nick explained the problem with our fridge in a way that was clear and easy to understand. He even answered our (admittedly silly) questions patiently.

While the Alpha website gets the job done, we thought it was a bit basic. It would’ve been nice to see online booking capabilities or a more detailed breakdown of their services.
Upon calling them, we were quoted a price upfront for the repairs we needed done. And yes, there weren’t any surprise fees at the end, which is always a relief.
But scheduling an appointment with them was like a tricky game of tic-tac-toe. Getting a repair tech to come out to us in the evening was especially difficult, so for speedier service, it’s probably better to stick with morning or afternoon appointments.
Upon meeting the service technician they sent out, we did like his clear professionalism. He quickly diagnosed the problem and wasted no time getting to work. He explained everything very clearly to us and even pointed out their 3-month warranty deal.
And as first-time customers, we got a $30 discount, which definitely saved us some cash on our final bill. Not too shabby!

Pete’s Appliance Repair isn’t just some faceless repair service. Their phone consultations are a breath of fresh air!
Unlike some companies, Pete’s technicians actually take the time to chat about clients’ problems. Even when we first called them, they were patient and even able to diagnose a simple user error (hey, it happens to the best of us!) that saved us a service call.
While Pete’s personal touch was fantastic, we found that it’s also led to some scheduling hiccups with others. Since their team is a bit smaller, getting an appointment on short notice can prove tricky, as per some clients we talked to… and waiting a few days for a technician to come out is definitely not ideal.
Besides this, we liked how they were upfront about their prices. Plus, they use genuine manufacturer parts and back their work with a warranty on both parts (90 days) and labor (30 days). And for those limited parts, there’s a one-year warranty.

“Peter is awesome. My wife and I needed a replacement washer/dryer for our rental unit and I thought what better advice than from the repairman himself. Peter spent quite a bit of time with me going over options and pros and cons and even gave me a tip on or other dryer on how to fix it with the current troubles we are having. 5. Loyalty Appliance Repair

Loyalty Appliance Repair’s website was a bit on the dull, spare side. It’s functional, sure, but it could have used a little extra something to convince you of the company’s credibility, especially now that so many people vet services online before hiring them.
Another thing that could be an issue is their service area. While Loyalty covers a decent chunk of Vancouver, it isn’t the best option if you live way out in the boonies.
We asked about this when booking an appointment. From the initial call to their repair tech, everyone we interacted with was friendly, professional, and explained things in a way that even someone who confuses watts with widgets could understand.
Speaking of the repair person, our technician was fantastic. He showed up on time, diagnosed the problem with the tester dishwasher quickly (it turns out it wasn’t channelling water properly), and had the whole thing fixed in under an hour.
Plus, he was super chill and answered all our questions without making us feel like dorks. Always a good thing!
