We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Reviews: We reached out to individuals with first-hand experience at various facilities. They described their experiences with treatment, staff, and the overall atmosphere.
  • Accreditation: We examined each facility’s accreditation and licensing details. We specifically looked for reputable organizations, such as the Canadian Mental Health Association and the BC Ministry of Health.
  • Treatment: We reviewed the treatments, programs, and support groups available at each facility.
  • Accessibility: We assessed each facility’s location, accessibility, and affordability. We recognize that convenient and cost-effective options are essential for successful treatment.

Overwhelming anxiety, paralyzing depression, and constant feelings of unease have become all too common.

While professional support can be a vital lifeline, even knowing where to start your search can feel daunting. You might dread another unhelpful therapy session or feel exhausted from looking for a place that truly understands your needs.

Recognizing how challenging this process can be, the Waterview Vancouver Magazine team took the initiative to explore mental health facilities in Vancouver.

We aim to help you discover the best options tailored to your well-being.

How much does mental health treatment cost in Vancouver?

Mental health treatment costs at least 150 per session in Vancouver.

This is just an estimate. The price will depend on the type of treatment, the facility, and more.

Three Story Clinic excels at working with young people ages 5 to 29. You can tell they genuinely understand the unique challenges this age group faces, which is evident in their services and overall atmosphere.

They offer top-notch individual therapy for kids, teens, and young adults. It focuses on issues like anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and more.

We also appreciate their family therapy service. It helps families improve communication, solve problems, and strengthen their relationships.

For couples in need, they provide therapy aimed at enhancing communication and deepening bonds.

We liked that they offer psychiatric consultations for assessments, diagnoses, and medication management. Plus, their psychological testing is in-depth. It assesses cognitive abilities, personality traits, and other psychological factors.

We were also impressed by the professionalism and approachability of the staff. Everyone we met showed genuine empathy and willingness to listen.

The only drawback was the occasional difficulty in scheduling appointments with specific therapists.

Pros

  • Specialized focus on young people
  • Comprehensive therapy options
  • In-depth psychiatric testing
  • Approachable and empathetic staff

Cons

  • Scheduling challenges

Professional and supportive therapists

“Our family has been fortunate enough to work w several on the therapeutic team over the years. Each therapist and psychiatrist has been professional, supportive and has helped immensely. The office would not run as smoothly without Lynn at the front. She is courteous, personable and goes the extra mile to ensure appointments are booked promptly and that clients feel well taken care of. Highly recommend.”

Address: 330 Heatley Ave

Contact Details: +1 604-253-4401

Operating Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 6 PM

Website

The Strathcona Community mental health team at the Heatley Community health centre impressed us with their comprehensive approach to treating schizophrenia and other manic disorders.

Their focus on helping individuals regain independence and improve their quality of life through rehabilitation and social support stood out.

We appreciate that they show a strong understanding of bipolar disorder by addressing both manic and depressive phases with personalized care.

Many people found one-on-one therapy sessions useful for learning coping strategies and handling emotions.

Meanwhile, others benefited from the support and connection they found in group therapy.

We appreciate that the team employs evidence-based methods like CBT and DBT. Psychiatric assessments are thorough—psychiatrists take the time to listen to concerns and conduct in-depth evaluations before recommending treatments.

Their medication management is also commendable, with close monitoring and adjustments as needed.

However, one area that could be improved is communication with families. More frequent updates on treatment progress would keep them informed and engaged in the recovery process.

Pros

  • Comprehensive mental health care
  • Diverse therapy options
  • Uses evidence-based methods
  • Thorough psychiatric assessments
  • Strong medication management

Cons

  • Family involvement gaps

Ensures evident and positive results

“I’m so grateful to my doctor, case manager and the staff. They’ve really changed my life in a very positive way over the few years. Thank you!”

Best walk-in experience

“I just had possibly one of the best walk-in experiences of my life at this clinic. All the staff I dealt with listened to what I had to say, were attentive, and genuinely concerned for my well being. NP Michael was phenomenal. He BELIEVED me when I told him something was “off” and legitmately wants to find answers. Unfortunately because I’m not homeless or an addict or anything of that sort I don’t qualify to become a patient there – but if I did, I would hands down make this my medical services location of choice. Thank you so much!”

Every single staff member shows genuine compassion and dedication. They take a personalized approach to ensure each resident’s unique needs and challenges are tackled.

The facilities are clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. However, some may not like the shared bathrooms.

On the plus side, the communal dining area encourages a sense of community. This approach helps residents build meaningful connections and encourages peer support.

Address: 1033 Cambie St

Contact Details: +1 604-317-6172

Website

Conscious Mind Clinic stands out for its innovative approach to mental healthcare.

They integrate traditional talk therapy with naturopathic medicine, which impressed us the most. They also offer psychedelic-assisted therapy for individuals who have not responded well to standard treatments.

Numerous clients report that the clinic’s microdosing coaching is highly effective in managing anxiety. In fact, many find it more beneficial than conventional therapy.

However, it is important to note that this specialized approach can be more expensive.

Even so, we appreciate the staff’s professionalism and compassion. The therapists truly listen and understand everyone’s needs.

Another notable aspect of the clinic is its focus on education and ongoing support. Workshops and seminars on topics such as mindfulness and stress management provide practical tools that foster long-term self-care.

Pros

  • Holistic approach
  • Effective microdosing coaching
  • Professional staff
  • Comprehensive care philosophy
  • Offers workshops and seminars

Cons

  • Higher cost

Provides top-notch care

“After years of working with conventional therapists for treating childhood trauma with minimal success,  I stumbled across Vanathy at Conscious Mind, I immediately resonated with her approach accessing the inner child  and meditation practices. Vanathy has done the inner work needed herself and is well aware of the struggles but also challenges you when your old ego wants to interfere. This clinic and the people who run it seriously do care, where others are more interested in profitability, than client care. Thank you Don and Vanathy for the work you do in helping others access higher consciousness . David Edward Plummer”

Always ready to put in the work needed

“My experience working with Vanathy at Conscious Mind Clinic was absolutely transformational. I was looking for an alternative, non-pharmaceutical method to treat my depression and anxiety. Vanathy returned my phone call, and spent almost an hour providing details and answering a million questions, and that’s before I became a client. She is highly committed to helping her patients, and I recommend her services to anyone seeking help – clients need to be ready and willing to put in the work needed. My treatment consisted of plant medicine therapy, which included two in-person preparation sessions, a ceremony, and two Zoom integration sessions. It’s been over 3 month since my treatment, there are no signs of depression/anxiety, my emotional health improved significantly, and I feel better connected to myself as well as the people around me.”

It’s admirable that the Canadian Mental Health Association truly understands and respects people dealing with mental health challenges, including those with addictions.

We were especially impressed by their broad range of community-based programs. It covers everything from youth and senior initiatives to mental health in the workplace.

Their advocacy and policy efforts reflect a deep emphasis on making a tangible impact beyond their immediate services.

We also appreciated the genuine empathy shown by the staff, which went well beyond simply performing their duties. They truly listened and responded with thoughtful care.

The only aspect that could be improved is the waiting room. A bit more warmth and comfort would make it much more welcoming.

Pros

  • Offers comprehensive support

  • Compassionate staff
  • Holistic approach

Cons

  • Unwelcoming waiting room
