Discover the Best Live Music in Vancouver at These 5 Venues

live-music-in-vancouver
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Superior Sound Quality and Acoustics: We only picked venues with top-notch, professionally engineered sound systems and acoustics that are actually designed for live music.
  • High-Calibre Lineup: We looked for spots that consistently bring in a great mix of talent—from local favorites to big-name national and international acts—covering a wide range of genres, so there’s always something interesting on stage.
  • Great Atmosphere: We made sure each place has the little things that make a big difference, like clean restrooms, fast and friendly bar service, and an overall well-run environment. That way, you can just relax and enjoy the music without any distractions.
  • Community Engagement: We also love venues that give back to the local music scene, whether it’s through hosting artist residencies or supporting music education programs.

I once drove three hours out of town for a “can’t-miss” live music event that turned out to be a guy with an acoustic guitar, a broken amp, and a suspiciously off-brand fog machine. The only thing louder than the feedback was my regret.

So when I started planning a homecoming dinner for my best friend—a serious music lover—I knew I couldn’t risk another venue with half-baked sounds. I rallied the Waterview Vancouver team, and we set out to find the best live music spots in the city.

After more than a few late nights and surprisingly great sets, we’ve narrowed down the list. Here are the places we’d keep going back to—and the ones we’d actually recommend for a proper night out with live music.

How much does it cost to see live music in Vancouver?

It costs at least $10 to see live music in Vancouver. This is just an estimate. The actual price will depend on the artist, the venue, and more.

1. 2nd Floor Gastown

Operating Hours: Thursday to Sunday – 6 PM to 10 PM

Website

2nd Floor Gastown is the kind of place you go when you want speakeasy vibes, great food, and a steady lineup of both well-known and up-and-coming musicians.

There’s live music every night, which is impressive on its own. The acts cover a lot of ground, from jazz and blues to soul and even the occasional indie band.

The acoustics are part of what makes it work so well. The room is intimate enough that you can really hear every detail. The setup is also professional, so the music sounds crisp and balanced without being too loud or overwhelming.

The food and drinks are a big part of the experience too. You can snack on exclusive tapas or go all out with dinner from the Water St. Café downstairs.

Their BC-focused wine list and creative house cocktails are always a hit, especially on Thursdays, when happy hour lasts all night.

The only catch is that it can get pretty packed, especially on weekends or when a popular artist is playing. If you’re hoping for a quiet night, you might have to deal with some crowds.

Pros

  • Speakeasy vibes
  • Nightly live music (jazz, blues, soul, indie)
  • Excellent sound
  • Intimate setting
  • Tapas/dinner from Water St. Café
  • All-night happy hour on Thursdays

Cons

  • Crowded on weekends/popular shows

Amazing jazz performers

“We came here this past weekend for a friend’s birthday. We loved the ambience, the view of the steam clock from the window, and the amazing jazz performers. The food was very good, but even though we had a large party reservation they were all out of the bison carpaccio which we were so excited to try (based off the reviews), so that was disappointing. There were no other complaints for the food/drinks and the Spaghetti alle Vongole was 12/10.  Would come here again in the future.”

Really wonderful live music

“Had dinner here last night and had such a wonderful time. My partner ordered the beef ribs which fell off the bone, and the risotto was stunning. We sat upstairs and enjoyed some really wonderful live music, the place is beautifully set and our server Tracy was so so lovely and really knowledgeable about the menu. If you’re looking for a great restaurant yo enjoy live music I would definitely recommend.”

If you’re a music lover—or just looking for a fun night out—Frankie’s Jazz Club is a fantastic spot to catch live jazz and blues. Whether you’re a longtime jazz fan or just curious to try something new, you’ll feel right at home here.

Frankie’s puts on seven shows a week, and the lineup is always a great mix—seasoned pros, up-and-coming talent, and local favorites.

Booking tickets is super easy too—we liked how you can pick your table and showtime online without any hassle.

One of our favorite things about Frankie’s is their After Dark series, curated by Tim Reinert. If you’re into late-night jazz, these $10 walk-in shows every Friday and Saturday at 11 pm are a real treat.

The only thing to watch out for is their strict cancellation policy. If your plans change at the last minute, you might end up forfeiting your ticket, which can be a bit frustrating.

But honestly, if you care about great live music, Frankie’s really delivers. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious. Their Italian and Canadian food pairs perfectly with their wine and cocktail list.

Pros

  • 7 shows/week
  • Easy online booking, choose your table
  • “Frankie’s After Dark” late-night $10 shows
  • Great wine/cocktail list
  • Italian & Canadian menu
  • Jazz, blues, seasoned pros & rising stars

Cons

  • Strict cancellation policy

Amazing jazz lounge

“I recently had the pleasure of visiting this amazing jazz lounge, and I absolutely loved the experience! It’s the perfect spot to sit back and relax with friends, enjoy a great drink, and immerse yourself in live jazz music. The atmosphere is cozy and sophisticated, making it ideal for a laid-back evening. Not only is the music fantastic, but the food also exceeded my expectations — everything was delicious and beautifully prepared. Whether you’re in the mood for a light bite or a full meal, this place truly delivers.I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great combination of live music, great drinks, and excellent food. I can’t wait to go back!”

Everything is wonderful

“We’ve been twice now and both experiences have been equally phenomenal! From the service to the food to the music and the whole atmosphere, everything is wonderful! I have a garlic and onion allergy and often end up with very plain meals when I eat out as kitchens seem nervous and not sure how to make anything without garlic and onion. The chef and kitchen crew at Frankie’s have made me outstanding dishes both times we’ve been! I’m so appreciative of their efforts!

If you don’t feel like you’re a jazz listener, go! I promise you won’t have a bad time!”

The Rogue Folk Club is a go-to spot for anyone who loves folk, roots, or Celtic music—especially for those who like their live shows with a side of community spirit.

Their concerts feature a great mix of local talent and touring artists, so there’s always something new and interesting on stage.

One thing we really appreciate is the sound quality. The music always sounds clear and balanced. Whether it’s a delicately finger-picked guitar or a full-on foot-stomping fiddle band, you can really enjoy every note.

If you go to shows often, becoming a member is totally worth it. You get perks like cheaper tickets, deals on merch, and even discounts at some Vancouver record stores.

Their regular newsletters are super helpful for staying in the loop about upcoming concerts and festivals.

The only real downside is that there’s no food for sale at the venue. A few people mentioned they wish there were at least snacks or coffee, especially since some shows run late and it’s easy to get hungry.

Pros

  • Folk, roots, and Celtic concerts
  • Welcoming community
  • Great membership perks
  • Local & touring acts

Cons

  • No food for sale

Chill x Studio stands out as a dynamic, women-owned venue that’s perfect for anyone seeking variety and an inclusive vibe. Whether you’re into live music or wellness events, this space has you covered.

We love how Chill x Studio isn’t just about entertainment—it’s about community and creativity. It hosts events that range from yoga sessions to comedy nights, all in a stylish, accessible setting.

The venue is thoughtfully designed. There’s a wheelchair ramp, comfy seating, and a fully equipped sound system. The customizable stage and professional lighting make every event feel special too.

They have a piano, sound booth, green room, and even showers in the bathrooms for

performers or all-day events. The door staff and accessible amenities mean you can focus on enjoying your night.

The bar menu is on the lighter side—mostly snacks and drinks. But it does the job if you’re just looking to sip and socialize between sets. If you’re after a full dinner, though, you’ll want to eat before you arrive.

Pros

  • Women-owned and inclusive
  • Hosts a wide range of creative events
  • Fully accessible venue
  • Customizable space
  • Bar with snacks

Cons

  • No full meals

Great vibe, super friendly staff

What a cool venue! Great vibe, super friendly staff, and saw 2 outstanding comedians: Ivan Decker and Chris Turner, that had us laughing so hard. Both so talented. We opted for the VIP seating- so we had the comfy seats, nominal price difference and well worth it. Highly recommend seeing a show at Chill x Studio. We’ll definitely be back.”

Concert style seating and a bar

“Nice vibe, cool decor. Concert style seating and a bar. A new weekly Wednesday night jazz series will be starting- very accessible by transit ( B- line Main St stop- 10 minute walk from bus stop)- lots of on-street parking in this light industrial area.  Definitely worth checking out !”

5. TYRANT STUDIOS

tyrant-studios

Address: 1019 Seymour St

Contact Details: +16044170756

Operating Hours: Thursday to Saturday – 9 PM to 11:59 PM

Website

If you love the idea of catching a show somewhere that once hosted legends like Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday, you’ve got to check out Tyrant Studios. It’s tucked away above the iconic Penthouse Nightclub, giving it that secret, old-school vibe.

We’re big fans of the late-night scene here. Doors open at 9 pm, and the music usually goes until close to midnight.

The lineup changes every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You can expect a mix of jazz, blues, and cabaret. They also sometimes host comedy and indie shows, so there’s always something unexpected to keep things interesting.

The setup is cozy in the best way. Think cabaret-style table seating, soft lighting, and a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to settle in for the night.

We also like how the space is intimate enough that you really feel connected to the performers, almost like you’re part of the show.

Just a heads-up: Tyrant Studios is strictly 19+, so it’s not the place to bring kids or teens. And since the shows start late, it’s probably not for early risers.

Pros

  • Historic, cabaret-style venue
  • Late-night shows
  • Cozy and intimate

Cons

  • 19+ only
  • Not for early risers

Feels like stepping into a sanctuary of music

“Visiting this studio for the first time feels like stepping into a sanctuary of music. Despite its limited space, every corner radiates the essence of a musical temple. Here, the music offers an unparalleled sense of relaxation, as if you’re experiencing a deep mental massage.”

Vancouver’s hidden musical gem

“Tyrant studios is Vancouver’s hidden musical gem. Up above the penthouse club, a pole dancing place, it is a completely separate club and vibe. Famed for hosting out of town artists, after hours in the mid 40’s such a Louis Armstrong, Billie holiday and Frank Sinatra amongst others, it is now a music venue again. As a singer I love playing here with my band, but that’s not why I’m recommending it. It is honestly one of the coolest spots in town to hear live music. If you are visiting, or live in Vancouver, go. Check out what’s on first as there’s different genres of music. Enjoy! Tell them I sent you!”
