The 5 Best Custom Made Tailors in Vancouver to Get You Feeling Runway Ready

custom-made-tailors-in-vancouver
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Facilities -  Do they have all the essential materials and equipment for tailoring ready? Is their shop kept clean and well-organized?

Tailoring

  • Quality - Is the quality of their work up to par? Are they able to get the fit just right to the client’s measurements?
  • Variety - Can they take on a wide array of clothing pieces? Can they serve as a good one-stop shop for custom clothing?

Customer Service - Are they able to complete their pieces on time? Is their team responsive when it comes to customer inquiries?

Accessibility - Is it easy to locate their shop? Are they open at convenient times throughout the year?

I like to think I’m decent with a needle. I can thread one without too much fuss, close basic holes, and do a mean ladder stitch. So when I noticed some of my waistbands getting looser, I thought, why not fix them myself?

Nope. Turns out that even with a tutorial, there’s a lot that goes into adjusting clothes!

After failing, I gave up. I contacted my friends, and after some much-deserved teasing, they took me to go look for custom tailors right here in Vancouver. We talked to other locals and visited the shops ourselves.

If you’re also in the same situation as me, here are our favorites that showed me why it’s best to leave your fashion to the professionals.

How much does it cost to get custom made tailoring in Vancouver?

Getting your clothes tailored at a custom made tailor in Vancouver can cost anywhere from $15 to $125, depending on the garment being serviced and any alterations ordered.

Nothing says class like a well-tailored suit, and one favorite among Vancouverites for just that was The Sartorial Shop. When they got the locals singing praises about how thorough their customizations are, that’s a sign we just couldn’t resist.

Their offerings surprised us when we first reached out. They’re popular for their custom suits and tuxes, but we were pleased to find out about their custom clothing for women and children as well.

Once selecting a garment, that’s where we found the store’s offerings opened up. Almost every aspect of their clothing can be customized, from the fabric of the suit to the buttons and cuffs, so you can really make it your own.

Many regulars we spoke to praised the consultations at the store. Many appreciated the team’s willingness to explain their process and recommend certain fabrics to fit the customer’s build and intended look.

Turnaround time is great too. The Sartorial Shop is clear about timelines, and they generally finish their tailoring well within schedule.

That said, we do have to note that scheduling an appointment to visit their physical store can take quite a while. We’d advise booking an appointment early if you’re planning to check out their products and services.

Pros

  • Wide range of customization options
  • Clear timeline for product arrival
  • In-depth and informational consultations

Cons

  • Difficulty visiting the physical location

If you’ve ever been in Canada, there’s a high chance you’ve run into a Surmesur boutique. The shop has been a favorite among locals looking for custom clothing of just about any sort.

Their range was just as Vancouverites described it to us. The shop offered custom, bespoke clothing in general, from outerwear like suit jackets and coats to personalized shoes made to measure.

If you’re lost on their options, we found their showroom as a good place to start. The space is pretty easy to locate, and when we were inside we didn’t have much trouble navigating their designs and products either.

Many of their former customers that we spoke with praised the staff’s recommendations. They help new buyers get an idea of what style of clothing could suit them, and even a ballpark on their measurements.

We were intrigued by some having favorite stylists in the shop, so we prodded for more information. Reportedly, customers could even book an appointment with specific stylists at the shop, making repeat visits handy if you’ve found one you click with!

That said, we recommend consistently following up on the status of your order. Some customers complained about not knowing whether their clothes were still being tailored or already out for delivery.

Pros

  • Easy to browse showroom
  • Reliable staff recommendations
  • Specific stylists can be requested

Cons

  • Difficulty clarifying timeline

The tailoring and the material were outstanding

“He is very knowledgeable, but also down-to-earth. He explained the options, allowed me to make the decisions, while also providing his opinions. His attention to detail was impeccable. The tailoring and the material were outstanding.”

If there’s an event you definitely want to be wearing well-fitting clothes for, it’s a wedding. And a popular name among that crowd, for both celebrants and guests, was Townline Tailors.

When we reached out, we found quite a range of tailoring services available at their shop. We especially appreciated the range of alteration services, from plain or stitch hemming to sleeve alterations.

These services were a real highlight among the customers we spoke with. Many praised the quality of these, mentioning the careful attention to the measurements without compromising the garment’s feel and comfort.

The shop also offers robust support for bridal wear and dresses. Their alteration services are available here, but they can also support total overhauls and redesigns of existing dresses to truly make them personalized.

Turnaround is really fast too, according to customers. We find that really handy for important events, as it lets customers get their clothes adjusted and tailored in advance.

That said, we still recommend booking Townline’s services early or stopping by their physical location when picking up clothes. Their deliveries of finished products could reportedly get delayed pretty often.

Pros

  • Reliable quality for alterations
  • Quick and timely service
  • Good support for bridal wear

Cons

  • Deliveries tend to get delayed

Alterations were finished much faster than I expected

“Super fast service. I was looking for tailoring in the downtown area and I came across Townline. Service was great, alterations were finished much faster than I expected. Will definitely recommended 100 %”

– Ms. Kara Daniels, Google Review

“I had a fantastic experience and their tailoring skills are top notch. I needed a pair of jeans to be waist in, and it came out perfect. I literally could not tell that someone had tailored it.”

SARAI Bespoke was quite the favorite pick among Vancouverites for bespoke clothing, and it wasn’t hard to see why.

The first thing that caught our attention was the shop’s tailored clothing offerings for various events. Since different colors, fabrics, and materials can give off different vibes, they offer a wide range of designs.

They have options suitable for corporate settings, weddings, and even daily life!

Their range of clothing was nothing to scoff at, either. We noticed quite a range of outerwear, first off, from tuxedos and dinner jackets to full topcoats. They also had various accessories to further personalize the look, from matching shoes to suspenders.

We also have to mention the team. They were quick to respond when we reached out, helpfully letting us know about their process, designs, and stock. Even nervous customers we spoke with mentioned feeling at ease when consulting with the team.

We also appreciated the shop’s offers of either pick-up or delivery for their clothes. This can be pretty handy when your clothes get finished ahead of schedule.

That said, the prices for their tailoring services can be pretty high. When going in for a consultation, we’d advise consulting with the team on a design that fits your look and your budget!

Pros

  • Professional and welcoming team
  • Wide range of outerwear and accessories
  • Reliable pick-up and delivery services

Cons

  • High prices for services

The entire experience was top notch

“It was everything that I imagined & more! The suit we designed together from scratch was not only second to none in terms of quality, perfected alterations & overall look but the entire experience was top notch.”

– Mr. Vik Sahi, Google Review

The team went above and beyond everytime

“I bought a suit for my wedding and met multiple times to ensure it was perfect. The team went above and beyond everytime. They were professional and everything was ready on schedule.”

With our fashion kind of limited as it is, it can feel like getting something that fits just right is like finding a needle in a haystack! Fortunately, Vancouverites happily put Brascia’s Tailors on our radar as a solution.

What we found when we swung by for a visit didn’t disappoint. Brascia’s Tailors carried and tailored largely menswear, from full suits to more casual clothing, like T-shirts and polos. They even have socks. Talk about range!

That said, we found their selection of off-the-rack clothing pretty limited, making it tricky to find a good base template for their clothing. We’d recommend bringing your own clothes to help the team get a feel of your style and how to tailor it further.

The quality of their custom-made clothes is impressive too. Many customers reported that the team paid careful attention to clients’ measurements during fitting, helping them get a sense of their perfect size.

Customers also praised the team’s flexibility with customer requests. Customers who want personal touches, like swapping out buttons or having accessories in a specific fabric, can easily request them from the team.

That extended to their tailoring and alterations too! The team was willing to alter existing garments for a better fit.

Pros

  • Good attention to detail when fitting
  • Very accommodating of client requests
  • Reliable alterations

Cons

  • Limited off-the-rack garments

“Got fitted for a new suit with Michael and he was amazing! He had loads of knowledge and helpful suggestions that made the whole experience really enjoyable. I will only be doing my suit and dressier clothes shopping through him.”

– Mr. Cody Flesher, Google Review

His knowledge and expertise completely transformed it

“Hamid worked on my suit, and his knowledge and expertise completely transformed it, taking it from oversized to a perfect fit. Both Mike and Hamid were fantastic throughout the entire process.”

– Mr. David Cavanagh, Google Review
