My Top 14 Gluten-Free Restaurants in Vancouver for Hassle-Free Meals

gluten-free-restaurants-in-vancouver

As someone who has never had to worry about gluten, I’ve always indulged in my favourite foods without a second thought. But after a few months of feeling generally sluggish, I decided it was time for a change.

I stumbled upon the idea of eliminating gluten as an experiment to see if it could boost my energy and improve my overall well-being.

To my surprise, eating gluten-free in Vancouver turned out to be affordable. Plus, I also didn’t have to compromise on flavour to eat healthy—who knew?

Whether you need to avoid gluten or are just curious like I was, here are my top picks for restaurants in Vancouver that cater to your needs.

1. Meet on Main

Meet on Main has a variety of bougie foods, from savoury poutine to healthy quinoa salads. But I come here when I want a gluten-free burger done damn right.

You can get any of their burgers without gluten and still get all the good stuff—fries, chipotle mayo, etc.

I usually go for the Crispy BBQ Burger. It’s got this amazing whisky BBQ sauce, and crispy onion strings that give every bite a nice crunch.

If you’re a mac and cheese fan, their Mighty Mac is rich and creamy. What’s more, their house chipotle mayo adds a nice kick.

Pro Tip:

Their gluten-free chocolate chip cookie and mousse combo is worth breaking your no-dessert diet.

2. The Acorn Restaurant

When I’m in the mood for classy plant–based dining, I go to Acorn.

If I visit during brunch, I always get their fried oyster mushroom. This savory goodness comes with the maple chili oil and koji gravy.

Let me tell you—it hits all the right notes! It’s comforting, unique, and filling, so what more can you ask for?

For dinner, I like to get their rich, creamy heritage corn grits. The “nduja” sauce adds a smoky kick that I love, and the turnip top chimichurri gives it a fresh finish.

If you have cash to spare, definitely go for their gluten-free tasting menu. It’s a zero-waste kitchen, so you get to enjoy seasonal ingredients at their peak.

Plus, it’s all served family-style.

Heirs Pears is the spot for gluten-free meals all day long and coffee that soothes the soul.

They serve everything from breakfast bagels to cauliflower pizzas. That said, I’m all about their sandwiches, especially the Pulled Duck.

The marinated duck melts in your mouth, which adds to the delight. The tangy buttermilk dressing, Dijon mustard, and coleslaw tie it together.

Their eggplant parm sandwich is just as good. It features tender roasted eggplant mixed with arugula, Parmesan, and cucumber. And those zucchini chips will definitely fill you up!

If you’re going to try any of their pastries, try their donuts. The salted espresso and peanut butter ones are next-level delicious.

When I’m in the mood for seafood, the bigoli nero with frutti di mare and uni butter tastes like pure heaven. It’s like seafood spaghetti—that’s what you’ll experience with this irresistible dish.

Their campanelle & braised beef ragu bianco is another favourite of mine—rich and flavorful.

Chickpea is where I go to satisfy those Mediterranean cravings, and it’s completely plant-based.

You can pick your main dish to be prepared in so many fun ways—whether it’s a burrito or a salad.

They have tons of mains to choose from, but their dalorit (butternut squash) is my go-to.

It’s perfectly roasted, and the combo of various ingredients gives it this deep, earthy flavour. It pairs well with the creamy tahini too.

If you want a meat alternative, their Shawarma with soy curls is close to the real thing. Marinated in an exotic spice blend, every bite is worth it.

Pro Tip:

They serve all-day breakfast! You’ve got to try the shakshuka—poached eggs in a rich, spiced tomato sauce that will make you rethink breakfast forever.

Virtuous Pie is the spot for gluten-free, vegan pizzas.

Everything is crafted from scratch, including their artisanal nut-based cheeses. They also have this three-day dough that’s hand-stretched to perfection.

My go-to pizza orders? The Stranger Wings, without a doubt.

It has just the right kick from that spicy buffalo cauliflower. Topped off with crispy fried shallots and a drizzle of blue cheese, it feels truly indulgent.

And then there’s the Jalapeño Popper, which hits all the right notes with its spicy jalapeños and a medley of cheeses that keeps me coming back for more.

Pro Tip:

Grab a scoop (or a pint) of their house-crafted gluten-free and dairy-free ice cream. I swear by the chocolate caramel shortbread and pumpkin spice!

Once you’ve tried it, you’ll be dreaming about it long after you leave.

The Burrows is where I go for the best damn vegan tacos. Seriously, they’ve got seven different kinds, and I’m all about mixing and matching.

My go-to combo usually includes the Horace “Lefty”, a poblano corn mix and crushed tortilla chips.

The fresh jalapeños give it just the right kick. And that sour cream? It takes it to a whole new level!

Then there’s the Penny, which is all about the cumin-spiced potatoes and housemade vegan ranch. It’s so creamy and satisfying!

They also have the Felix Jasper, packed with spicy lentil mix and cashew queso—yum!

Pourhouse Restaurant has classy dishes like ratatouille and Arctic char. Don’t get me wrong, their ratatouille is quite good, but I love their gluten-free steak frites.

There’s just something about that 10oz striploin cooked to perfection, paired with hand-cut fries that are so crispy I can eat them for days.

Drizzle some of that red wine jus or peppercorn sauce, and I’ll definitely be needing bigger pants!

East is East always takes my taste buds along the Silk and Spice road, with a menu filled with the best of Arabian, Persian, and Indian fusion cuisine.

The joojeh (chicken) kebab is a standout for me. The charbroiled chicken breast cubes marinated in Persian-Mughlai spices just hit the spot! I never leave a single spoonful of that creamy cashew curry behind.

The Persian gormeh sabzi is just as incredible. The grass-fed lamb is rich, complemented by fenugreek and tangy dry limes.

And I can never pass on their chai—I could sip on it all day.

Pro Tip:

They have live entertainment every night, where you can listen to world-class musicians with traditional instruments from places like India and Romania. It creates an atmosphere you won’t want to leave.

One of my go-to dishes is the 6-inch bone marrow topped with gruyère, scrambled eggs, and chives. The richness of the marrow pairs perfectly with the fluffy eggs.

If I’m feeling more on the lighter side, I get their bircher muesli. It’s packed with oats, chia seeds, and a drizzle of maple syrup, all topped with toasted coconut and hazelnut crumb.

Pro Tip:

Make a reservation if you’re planning to come for brunch; that way, you’re guaranteed a spot and can avoid the wait.

12. Eternal Abundance Organic Market & Eatery

Eternal Abundance’s entire menu is vegan, organic, and yes—gluten-free. They’ve got some of the best smoothie bowls, immunity shots, and Asian-fusion food.

The spicy kimchi roll is what I usually order. It features crunchy veggies, creamy avocado, and that zing from the kimchi all wrapped up in a perfectly chewy nori sheet.

They also have a pretty good golden curry noodle soup, reminiscent of the classic Thai curry. However, their version is loaded with kale, carrots, bell peppers, and tons of ginger.

Pro Tip:

Come before 2 PM for breakfast. I like to get their sweet cinnamon spiced quinoa waffles, but their orange-blueberry chia pudding is a good choice if you want something lighter.

13. Po Kong

Po Kong is the spot for some killer vegetarian Chinese food, especially if you’re looking to keep it gluten-free. They have everything from classic stir-fried veggie dishes to noodles, dishes, and even hot pot.

Their chili eggplant and tofu hot pot is one of my favourites. It’s loaded with vegetables and not so numb-tinglingly spicy.

They also have a really good sizzling vegetarian steak. Man, the black pepper sauce hits just right; I hardly remember it’s not real steak.

Pro Tip:

Swing by from 11 AM to 2:30 PM for their dim sum. They have some of the best dumplings in town.

14. Do Chay

  • Friday to Sunday – 11 AM to 10:30 PM

Price: $$

Whenever I’m in the mood for Vietnamese food, I head straight to Do Chay. They have a mix of street food classics like spring rolls, dumplings, and more.

Their House Special Pho is what I usually get. The konjac tripe gives it a chewy texture, and the mushrooms and daikon give the broth some flavour.

They also have a vegan pho, if that’s something you want to give a try.

I haven’t tried it, but I’ve sampled their vegan prawn curry before. It’s creamy, and semi-sweet, and the plant-based prawns soak up all the flavours.

Pro Tip:

If you want to get dessert, get their fried banana sticky rice. The crispy coconut tapioca is a nice touch.
