We know this first hand because, just like you, we’ve been there—navigating the maze of options, reading endless reviews, and trying to make the best decision for our beloved pets.

Thankfully, after much paw-shaking and tail-wagging, we’ve narrowed down the top veterinarians in Vancouver who are ready to treat your pet with the care and attention they deserve.

Here’s a list of the ones that made the cut!

How Much Do Veterinarian Services Cost in Vancouver?

Out of all the clinics we visited, West Boulevard Veterinary Clinic stands out as the most impressive, and it’s not hard to see why.

For those of us with pets that fall outside the typical cat-and-dog spectrum, West Boulevard opens its doors to a whole range of small animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas, and even hedgehogs.

We were especially pleased to find that all the veterinarians here are not only fully licensed but also bring a wealth of experience to the table. It’s clear that they know their stuff, and when it comes to the health of your pets, that kind of expertise is priceless.

We’ve also noted that West Boulevard Veterinary Clinic accepts pet insurance from major providers like Trupanion, PetSecure, and PetsPlusUs. This is a huge plus, especially when pet healthcare costs can be daunting.

Sure, the price tag might make your wallet wince a bit, but the peace of mind and top-notch care you’ll get in return make it worth every penny for your furry—and even not-so-furry—family members.

Pros

  • Licensed and experienced veterinarians
  • Diverse range of services, including care for small animals

BC SPCA Vancouver Animal Hospital is a bit of a mixed bag, and we mean that in the most honest way possible. But as we delved deeper, we found that there’s more to this clinic than meets the eye.

And here’s where they really stand out: their low-cost spay and neuter services. It’s a rare find in a city where pet care costs can easily skyrocket, and if you’re watching your budget, this might just be the place for you.

However, as we dug into some of the feedback from other pet owners, the picture started to get a bit fuzzy. Let’s talk about their veterinarians—yes, they’re licensed, so you’re in good hands regarding qualifications.

But here’s where things get a bit tricky. While the clinic is perfectly equipped to handle your average dog or cat, their expertise doesn’t stretch beyond that. If you’re hoping for a place that can care for more exotic pets, you’re out of luck here.

In summary, BC SPCA Vancouver Animal Hospital offers affordable care for your dogs and cats, but there are some caveats to consider.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly neuter and spay services
  • Licensed veterinarians
  • Solid range of standard services

Cons

  • Solid range of standard services

Highly recommend!

“I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking to have their cat spayed or neutered. Their work was incredible, and there were no infections, all for almost half the price of private clinics.”

-FARSHAD ZARGARAN, Google Review

Very attentive

“SPCA is wonderful. My dog got neutered last week. He has been recovering swiftly. They took a really good care of him, very attentive to my dog.”

When we think of a vet visit, it’s easy to imagine a nervous pet cowering in a corner, but Pointgrey Veterinary Hospital turns that expectation upside down with its Fear-Free services.

This program is thoughtfully designed to make your pet’s experience as stress-free as possible. If your furry friend tends to get anxious—like ours does—Pointgrey might just feel like a sanctuary for them.

We appreciate that this wasn’t just a place for quick check-ups; they handle everything under one roof, such as dentistry, surgery, etc. However, we did feel a twinge of disappointment when we realized that, like many other clinics, their services are focused solely on cats and dogs.

We weren’t the only ones impressed by the Fear-Free experience. Other pet owners we spoke to echoed our sentiments—many praised the clinic for their quality care and for the way they made their pets feel safe and calm.

The higher price tag and potential difficulties in securing an appointment are things to keep in mind. If you’re prepared for the cost and your pet fits their scope of care, Pointgrey could be a great fit.

Pros

  • Fear-Free care for anxious pets
  • Comprehensive range of veterinary services
  • Licensed veterinarians
  • Clean and welcoming facilities
  • Open on Saturdays

Cons

  • Expensive compared to other clinics
  • Appointments can be hard to secure

Knowledgeable and kind

The best!

“Hands down the best veterinary service in this whole part of Vancouver. If they’re at all in reasonable travel distance to you, then you should take your pets here.”

-Gregory Bullard, Google Review

Compassionate

“I have nothing but positive things to say about West Boulevard Vet Clinic. They are kind, compassionate and knowledgeable.”

-Tim M, Google Review

Ten stars!

“The staff are all amazing and I am so grateful that they have been helping me care for my elderly westie. Ten Stars, honestly.”

If you’re living in Yaletown or Downtown Vancouver and find yourself in need of a vet who can truly be there for your pet, Vancouver Downtown Pet Hospital is a name that quickly comes to mind.

One of the first things that struck us about Vancouver Downtown Pet Hospital is their commitment to Fear-Free practices. If you’ve ever seen your pet become a bundle of nerves the moment you step into a vet’s office, you’ll understand just how important this is.

Their modern facilities are another strong point. Located right in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, the clinic is not only easily accessible but it’s also equipped with the latest in veterinary technology.

Also, we found the clinic to be well-maintained, with a focus on hygiene, which is crucial in any medical setting.

Just be prepared—this level of care can come with a price tag that’s a bit on the high side, but for many, the peace of mind and quality care make it a worthwhile investment.

  • Fear-Free practices to reduce pet anxiety
  • Comprehensive care
  • Modern, well-equipped facilities

When it comes to comprehensive care for your feline or canine companions, Yaletown Pet Hospital stands out for its diverse range of services.

Let’s talk about the team—each veterinarian at Yaletown Pet Hospital is fully licensed and brings a wealth of experience to the table. During our visit, we found that they have a genuine knack for handling their animal patients with the utmost care and compassion.

However, not everything is as rosy as it seems. Despite the top-notch veterinary care, the clinic does have a few rough edges. We’ve come across several reviews on Yelp and Google that mention less-than-stellar experiences with the office staff.

And then there’s the price tag. Yaletown Pet Hospital isn’t the most budget-friendly option in Vancouver. A general physical exam here can set you back around $100, which is notably higher than the average cost at other local clinics.

All things considered, Yaletown Pet Hospital offers a high standard of care, particularly for dogs and cats. Their clean facilities, experienced vets, and a broad range of services make it a reliable choice for many pet owners.

Pros

  • Licensed and experienced veterinarians
  • Comprehensive care options for dogs and cats
  • Generally clean and well-maintained facilities
  • Open on Saturdays and Holidays

Cons

  • Higher-than-average prices
  • Reports of rude and inefficient office staff
  • Services limited to dogs and cats

Great!

“We see Dr. Nicole Yu at YPH and she is great to work with. She is everything you are looking for as your primary care provider for your dog or cat.”

– Jessica Leung, Google Review

Upmost care

“I highly recommend this vet clinic. I’ve brought my dog and cat here and saw Dr. Chen. She has been wonderful to deal with, she listens attentively to any concerns and provides upmost care.”

Pros

  • Experienced Team of Veterinarians
  • State-of-the-Art Facilities and Equipment
  • Comprehensive Services
  • Client-Centric Approach
  • Culture of Empathy and Care
  • Focus on Preventive Care

Cons

  • Advanced Scheduling is Recommended

Kind, thorough and personable

“Today was our first visit at this clinic (Dolly’s and mine) for a pre-spay exam and consultation. Dr. Loretta Yuen was kind, thorough and personable, and the staff were friendly and put up with Dolly’s over-familiarity with everyone in the waiting room. I’ve had many dogs and cats and several veterinarians over the years, but our experience today was very good.”

Professionalism and compassion

“I want to thank Dr. Jenna for her utmost professionalism and compassion in caring for our lab, Java, these past 5 months. Dr. Jenna diagnosed Java’s Mast Cell Tumour 5 months ago, and carefully walked us through the different options. Unfortunately, Java’s cancer had spread and no option was curative. I greatly appreciated how Dr. Jenna did not pressure us into any aggressive treatments and focused on Java’s quality of life throughout.

Sadly, we had to bring Java in for her final visit to Paws a few days ago. Although they were just about to close at 6 PM on a Saturday, Dr. Jenna and her staff stayed late to put Java to rest. Thank you Dr. Jenna, and everyone who stayed later, so that Java did not have to endure any suffering until you re-opened on Monday. Your commitment to Java’s comfort in her final moments was so greatly appreciated.”
