We know how these things usually go. You take a “quick” hike in the mountains on Saturday, only to wake up the next morning with your knees making a “popping” sound.
And like every person in the world ever, the first thing you do is Google symptoms.
Somewhere about the 3rd-page result, you probably realize that you need a proper orthopaedic specialist. Someone who actually has the clinical experience to diagnose your situation (and not a Redditor simply farming karma).
After digging through patient stories and speaking with clinics, we narrowed it down to specialists that Vancouverites trust.
Check out what made them a cut above the rest.
How much does it cost to consult with an orthopaedic specialist in Vancouver?
The cost of consulting with an orthopaedic specialist in Vancouver ranges from $360 to $500 for the initial consultation. Treatments can cost up to thousands, depending on the complexity.
1. Pacific Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine

Location: 131 13th St E #309, North Vancouver
Contact: +1 604 249 4145
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pacific provides a comprehensive range of orthopaedic services. Surgical and non-surgical options include joint replacement, fracture management, and injections.
The clinic boasts a great team of fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons. We love the wide range of subspecializations in shoulder, elbow, knee, and more.
The quality of work is something we commend. According to patients, they experienced lasting pain relief from complex procedures.
The clinical teams also take the time to explain recovery instructions. We love how in-depth the process is, including physiotherapy exercises and expectations in detail.
We also find their continuity of care solid. They work closely with hospitals (e.g., Lions Gate Hospital) to ensure a smooth transition from surgery to rehabilitation.
Beyond surgical treatments, their accessibility also won our favor. Telehealth appointments are available, as well as phone and video consultations.
However, front-desk experiences were inconsistent. Multiple patients we spoke with reported poor communication and difficulty with rescheduling.
There were also occasional wait times for appointments.
Exceptionally efficient
“Sara the assistant to Dr V Jando is exceptionally efficient. I’m very impressed with her attitude to help patient like me, without any discrimination and disrespect unlike the VH consultant in WorkSafeBC. Sara deserves praises.”

Great result
“Had shoulder surgery from Dr McConkey back in 2019. Before surgery my shoulder would always pop out and I genuinely thought it was going to be messed up for life. Sine the surgery, 6 years later, its been great. I can now play sports with confidence and the shoulder hasn’t popped out since.”

Footbridge provides fully integrated orthopaedic care. They combine orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine, physiotherapy, and post-operative rehabilitation.
From client stories, we can say the quality of surgical work is outstanding. Patients highlight improvements, such as regaining full mobility and remaining pain-free for years.
Surgeons can also handle many highly complex cases, which reassures us of their experience and credibility.
Communication is also a major plus. Physicians keep things realistic and direct. Diagnoses, risks, and recovery timelines are clearly explained.
The bedside manner is also exceptional, especially among older adults. Empathy and respect, of course, matter a lot to us when evaluating this area.
We also liked their administrative support, as the staff were polite and supportive. Patients receive timely call-backs and appointment reminders to ensure a seamless experience.
That said, there were a few instances of missed follow-ups and scheduling issues, so the experience is not consistent.
Long wait times can be expected during busy days too.
Polite approach
“After my first visit I gave 1 star I was so upset about finding this place. But after my second appt things went very well and appt went ahead of schedule which is rare anywhere. The nurses or workers here are very polite to me and that means alot.
If they would upgrade their directions to locate this place that would make it a 5 star.
My doctor is also good. Which is most important factor of being here. If he wasn’t I would not be here. Have a wonderful day everyone!!!”

Top-notch surgeons
“I love this establishment and everybody who works there. The volume of patients they are dealing with is incredibly high (blame the system not the clinic) and if you are unable to talk with someone, they are always able to call/email back within a day or two. Their surgeons are top notch and again do their absolute best to deliver great patient care to all the patients they see daily.”

Contact: +1 360 882 2778

The Vancouver Clinic offers a wide range of orthopaedic care within a large integrated medical system. Through this, patients can access imaging, physical therapy, and follow-up care under one roof.
We love how in-depth their physicians are during consultations. According to patients, the doctors explain diagnoses clearly and review imaging results in detail before recommending treatment plans.
Surgical outcomes are also outstanding. Apart from the strong follow-up support, there’s also continuity of care that makes things more seamless.
Orthopaedic specialists work closely with primary care providers and physical therapists, who all share access to the same records.
Appointment scheduling is also efficient. While there are instances of poor experiences, there were many who reported short wait times and easy booking.
It’s also possible to secure earlier appointments through waitlists and cancellations.
There were, however, a few instances of poor staff attitude, which can affect overall patient satisfaction.
Insurance acceptance is also relatively limited compared to other clinics.

All the doctors we have come across so far at Vancouver Clinic are very supportive and helpful. . The appointments are easier to set especially via my. Chart app. We trust them and The Vancouver Clinic is taking good care of us.”

Provides good doctors
“Vancouver clinic generally provides good doctors who work well together. They have improved communications regarding estimated patient financial responsibility, and it is rare that I have to wait long for my appointments. Being healthcare physicians, it is reasonable that appointments are occassionly late due to providing emergency care earlier in their day.”

4. Vancouver Coastal Health

Location: 520 W 6th Ave, Vancouver
Contact: +1 604 736 2033
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Vancouver Coastal Health delivers large-scale orthopaedic services across hospitals, urgent care centers, and specialty clinics.
They give patients access to fracture care, joint replacement surgery, and trauma orthopaedics.
For patients with a limited budget, VCH is a great choice. This is because they offer publicly funded care under MSP.
Through this, consultations, imaging, and surgeries become more financially accessible to patients.
We like that the clinic supports high-complexity orthopaedic cases. They provide hospital-based surgical infrastructure, advanced imaging, and inpatient care.
This makes the patient journey feel more seamless and convenient.
Speaking of which, VCH’s scale allows patients to be referred efficiently between hospitals and subspecialists. This is a major advantage for those requiring higher-level care or specialized procedures.
Staff are also friendly and supportive, which we find valuable for all interactions.
On the downside, we heard a few reports of inconsistent administrative processes across locations.
There were also a few instances of poor communication on what services are offered per site.
Friendly staff
“Friendly staff at the Cambie Community Dialysis Unit.”

Their surgeons consistently show deep experience and technical expertise. This can be seen in their successful outcomes, even in complex cases like bilateral hip replacements.
When speaking to clients, their surgical preparation is often highlighted. There are clear pre-operative instructions and structured recovery plans.
Patients also highlight effective coordination between surgeons, nurses, and rehabilitation teams.
We also like their patient-centered approach to treatment. Multiple patients say that surgeons take the time to listen carefully and explain treatment options thoroughly.
The integrated on-site services also make things easier for patients. Technology such as MRI and X-ray is all accessible, reducing the need for external referrals.
That said, the long wait times for appointments can be a dealbreaker for a lot of patients. There were also a few instances of delayed scheduling, especially during busy days.
Takes time with you
“Dr Southerland is a fantastic doctor. He is very patient and takes time with you. You always feel like you are his priority. I had gone to 2 other providers but was not happy with them. I feel so lucky to have found him. Everyone at Rebound is so friendly and nice. I will be having knee replacement surgery next year and feel confident I have found the best place I could be.”
– Kathy Roberts, Google Review
Very efficient and spot on advice
“My visit with Dr. Southerland was very efficient and his advice was spot on. I did some PT over the summer and have had little or no sciatic pain since then.
Dr. Southerland was very kind and listened to my concerns and opinions. I can see why my friend recommended him.”
