Finding a good jazz club is like finding a perfectly ripe avocado – rare and worth celebrating.
I say that because a few years back, I checked out a so-called “jazz club” that felt less like Sinatra and more like someone was strangling a saxophone. Not to mention, the drinks were watered down, and the only thing swinging was the rusty ceiling fan.
That disaster sent me on the hunt for the best jazz clubs in Vancouver. I wasn’t about to waste another Sunday night regretting I’d gone out.
During the hunt, I found some clubs where the horns burn, the drinks actually taste good, and the only thing out of tune is me humming along. Here are the ones worth visiting.
How much does it cost to go to a jazz club in Vancouver?
Expect to spend at least $10 at a jazz club in Vancouver. This is just an estimate. The actual price will depend on whether there are entrance fees, the cocktails you get, the food, and more.
1. 2nd Floor Gastown

Address: 300 Water St
Contact Details: +1 604-689-2832
Operating Hours: Thursday to Sunday – 6 PM to 10 PM
I love 2nd Floor Gastown’s location. It’s in a 1906 heritage building that once housed the Edward Hotel, so it has both historical charm and a vibrant atmosphere for live music.
Although not the typical jazz club, they do feature some excellent local jazz bands. I also love that you can check their website ahead of time to see who’s playing, which makes it easier to plan night outs.
The music ranges from soulful jazz trios to upbeat swing bands. No matter your taste, there’s something here to enjoy, which is exactly why they made it onto my list.
Another thing I love is that there’s always something happening, from nightly live music to special events like Holiday Menus and Winemakers Dinners. I appreciate the diversity as it gives the club more character.
And I have to say I love their cocktails. Their old-fashioned is one of the best I’ve had, so I’ve been coming back for it.
My only gripe is that it can be difficult to get a table on busy nights, especially when there’s a popular event happening.
The amazing jazz performers
“We came here this past weekend for a friend’s birthday. We loved the ambience, the view of the steam clock from the window, and the amazing jazz performers. The food was very good, but even though we had a large party reservation they were all out of the bison carpaccio which we were so excited to try (based off the reviews), so that was disappointing. There were no other complaints for the food/drinks and the Spaghetti alle Vongole was 12/10. Would come here again in the future.“

Excellent jazz music
“A cosy jazz atmosphere on a hot summer night. The 3 course ravioli was unique and the salad was creative and delicious.
Gabriel’s rendition of Louie Armstrong was fun. Excellent jazz music presention as always.”

2. Frankie’s Jazz Club

Address: 755 Beatty St
Contact Details: +1 604-688-6368
Operating Hours:
- Wednesday – 5:30 to 10 PM
- Thursday, Sunday – 6:30 PM to 11 PM
- Friday & Saturday – 6:30 PM to Midnight
Frankie’s Jazz Club is where all the real lovers of jazz and blues go. Their music lineup is full of established masters, rising stars, and local jazz legends.
When I spent an evening here, I enjoyed one of the finest weekly live jazz programs I’ve seen so far. They have 7 shows a week, but I personally love going on Wednesdays/Wine/Weeds night.
That midweek treat means 50% off all Reserve bottles of wine while listening to a swinging hard bop performance by the saxophonist Cory Weeds and the band, Jimi James Fraser Trio.
Others love Frankie’s After Dark. Every Friday and Saturday, Tim Reinert of Infidels Jazz curates late-night sessions that kick off at 11 PM. I really like the more mature musician vibe that you don’t experience at their earlier shows.
I also loved the dimly lit and cozy atmosphere. Plus, with top-notch Italian cuisine and a full-service cocktail bar, it’s hard not to fall in love with the club.
My only complaint? To reserve your table, you have to purchase your tickets in advance on their website.
Amazing jazz lounge
“I recently had the pleasure of visiting this amazing jazz lounge, and I absolutely loved the experience! It’s the perfect spot to sit back and relax with friends, enjoy a great drink, and immerse yourself in live jazz music. The atmosphere is cozy and sophisticated, making it ideal for a laid-back evening. Not only is the music fantastic, but the food also exceeded my expectations — everything was delicious and beautifully prepared. Whether you’re in the mood for a light bite or a full meal, this place truly delivers.
I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great combination of live music, great drinks, and excellent food. I can’t wait to go back!”

Phenomenal!
“We’ve been twice now and both experiences have been equally phenomenal! From the service to the food to the music and the whole atmosphere, everything is wonderful! I have a garlic and onion allergy and often end up with very plain meals when I eat out as kitchens seem nervous and not sure how to make anything without garlic and onion. The chef and kitchen crew at Frankie’s have made me outstanding dishes both times we’ve been! I’m so appreciative of their efforts! If you don’t feel like you’re a jazz listener, go! I promise you won’t have a bad time!”

3. Guilt & Co

Address: 1 Alexander Street, Underground
Contact Details: +1 604-288-1704
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Wednesday, Sunday – 6 PM to Midnight
- Thursday – 6 PM to 1 AM
- Friday & Saturday – 6 PM to 2 AM
What immediately grabbed my attention about Guilt & Company was its intimate, speakeasy-like setting. They replicate what you would expect to find in a jazz club, from the dim lights and vintage decor to the intimate crowd of people.
One thing I really appreciate is that they don’t do private events or large group bookings. I like this because the focus remains on the music and the intimate atmosphere.
Speaking of music, I love their online music calendar. It’s packed with photos and info on the bands playing, which makes planning the night simple and exciting.
Another thing many people love is their “Guilt By Association” artist feature series. They spotlight local Vancouver talent. It’s such a cool way to connect with musicians you might not have discovered otherwise.
I also love their Chappy Hour from 6 to 7 PM. They offer some fantastic deals on both food and drinks, so I recommend checking it out.
The biggest issue here is that because the space is so small and popular, it can get quite crowded, especially on weekends.
Love jazz music
“My favorite place in Vancouver! I love jazz music and I come here often – on a weekend to sway & party or a weekday after a tiring day at work to relax and listen to some good live music. Los Duendes are my favorite band here!!
The vibe here is fantastic. Some days are more peppy and upbeat (fri/sat) than others. The food is good too! I’m a vegetarian and have had to recently go gluten free as well and I was happy to see a mushroom pizza which is with a cauliflower crust by default. I never had that crust before (I’ve been having Gf flour as pizza base everywhere else). It was surprisingly good, no real flavour of cauliflower & quite sturdy and crisp. Also tried the vegan mushroom tacos which were quite spicy but delicious.“

Filled with people grooving to the music
“My favorite speakeasy in the world. A dark, intimate (and lively when the music starts), underground bar that hosts local artists. They had jazz artists the last time I went, who were awesome and the small area in front of the performers was filled with people grooving to the music.
The drinks were brilliant, and I loved their collection of beer as well. We got some popcorn to snack on along with the drinks, and loved that too.
I’ve been here 3-4 times by now and it has been an incredible experience every time. If you come after 8-9 pm on weekends, expect a lineup (15-30 minutes wait time). They do charge per performance set per person and it can get expensive really fast.”

4. Fox Cabaret

Address: 2321 Main St
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Saturday – 7 PM to 2 AM
- Sunday – 8 PM to 2 AM
Fox Cabaret has an interesting history. It used to be an adult cinema, but today it’s a lively venue hosting everything from live music to comedy shows. It’s open late til 2 am, making it a great spot for a night out in town.
I wouldn’t say they are particularly a NYC-style jazz club, but they made my list because when they do play jazz music, it’s really good.
I love that they choose legit saxophone players and bands that put their spin on classic jazz songs every fan knows and loves.
On the nights that I come here, I love the energetic atmosphere. The crowd is always ready to dance and unwind. The dancefloor is not too cramped either, and there is still room to enjoy the live performances.
The main thing I’m not a fan of is how hard it is to get tickets. It can sometimes be a bit tricky. While many of their shows sell tickets at the door (cash only!), it’s always best to buy online ahead of time.
Parking can also be hit or miss. There’s street parking nearby, but depending on the night, it can be tough to snag a spot.
Will definitely come back for more
“Yeah Man Entertainment put on an awesome show last night, it was my first time seeing Felisha and the Jazz Rejects but they killed it! Will definitely come back for more of Yeah Man concerts!!”

Had such a fantastic night
”Had such a fantastic night , and a big part of that was thanks to the incredible lady bartender! She crafted one of the best drinks I’ve had in ages—perfectly balanced, creative, and absolutely delicious. I loved it so much I ended up savoring it the whole evening. Beyond her mixology skills, she was warm, attentive, and handled the busy crowd with total grace. You could tell she genuinely cared about what she was serving and made the experience feel personalized and special. Fox Cabaret already has a great vibe, but it’s staff like her that take it to the next level. I’ll definitely be back—and I’ll be ordering another one of those drinks!”

5. Tyrant Studios

Address: 1019 Seymour St
Contact Details: +1 604-417-0756
Operating Hours: Thursday to Saturday – 9 PM to 11:59 PM
Tyrant Studios is one of the hippest little spots in town for live jazz. One of the coolest things about this place is the location. I mean, they’re right above the legendary Penthouse Nightclub.
That place has hosted jazz legends like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Duke Ellington – my personal jazz favs.
Plus, they’re strict about checking IDs at the door, only letting in the 19+ crowd. I like this only because it creates a mature and sophisticated vibe. You can really get into the music without having to worry about any distractions.
When I went, the band was absolutely incredible, playing a mix of classic jazz standards and their own original stuff. The music was soulful, energetic, and completely captivating.
Sure, the place is small, but it creates this amazing sense of connection between the performers and the audience.
Be warned, though, that it can get crowded quickly due to the venue’s size. It gets so packed you feel like you’re in a can of sardines, with people pushing up on you from every direction.
Great jazz
”I would give 5 stars because of the great jazz but the service & wine offered were can be much better. Everything else is very cool about this place! One of my fav jazz spots in the city!”

Brilliant jazz
“Adorable and intimate cabaret venue above the legendary Penthouse. Ella Fitzgerald and other legends have performed on this stage, and now brilliant jazz, comedy and theatre artists grace the redone venue. The venue owner seemed a little stressed – but what theatre/arts org founder isn’t? 😅 There’s a cute little bar with beer, wine and liquor service with a debit/CC machine for convenience. Definitely recommend for any small show producer or someone looking for a funky, intimate performance!“
